Is there any real argument to suggest that large or aggression prone breeds continue to be bred?

ANY aggressive dog, no matter what the lineage, should be put down or at least spayed/ neutered. No reason for it.

Personality disorders can be genetic. If breeders weaned aggressiveness out of their breeds than there would be no such thing as an aggressive breed. HOWEVER, some people PURPOSLY breed for the aggressive trait. These dogs are then sold into fight rings, or used as guard dogs. This trait can show up suddenly, generations down the road. That cute pit you got at the petstore may have some bad lines that could one day turn it against you. I've seen it happen many times. These dogs were raised in loving families, and then attacked their owners or in some cases children.

There is no real evidence for breeding large dogs nor is there any real evidence for breeding small dogs, nor is there any real evidence for breeding dogs, nor is there any real evidence for not breeding dogs. It is done because people have personal preferences.

The three most aggressive breeds are Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, and Chihuahua. Some breeds some consider as aggressive such as German Shepherd Dogs, are in the middle. While a breed may trend towards aggression, there are generally more non aggressive individuals in the breed then aggressive, ie, an "aggressive" breed may have 20% aggressive individuals and a "non-aggressive" breed may have 10% aggressive. Even naturally unagressive dogs can be made aggressive by the handler; it is just a bit easier if a dog already has aggressive tendencies. Then, what is aggressive? Veterinary Behavioralists recognize at least four independent types of aggression.

Bottom line: there is no such thing as an aggressive breed.

Some "aggresive" breeds aren't aggresive at all. I've known a few people that own pitbulls and they are the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. They love everyone and loved dogs. Its really the owners that make bad dogs and they don't socialize them properly. There are dogs from all breeds that gave genetically aggressive temperments. Someone could have a shih tzu with a nasty temperment if the breeders didn't screen the breeding adults properly for temperment.

The Presa Canario is just a little too scary for me.

Pitbulls are bred to fight other dogs, but the Presa Canario is bred to kill people, a man killer.

The thing looks like someone bred a Great Dane with a PitBull. Why would anybody do such a thing? The Presa Canario is a monster dog. I'd feel more comfortable around a Bull Mastiff, which was also bred for human chomping.

Because people who do not properly train and socialise their dogs continue to adopt or buy dogs. It is not the breed, it is the owner. Nothing different between an aggressive toy poodle and an aggressive pit bull except the size.

Some people have agressive types of dogs to train them enough to keep them protected. They also might keep them for sport, i've heard that some people fight dogs for money like people. Also some people just think that big tough dogs are cute and they train them to not be aggresive. I used to have a dog that was a chow chow ad passed yesterday. many people thought he would bite them but he has nevr bitten anything

Why do people keep assuming that there are agressive breeds? I have had so-called agressive breeds all my life, with no bites or even near bites. Yet my next door neighbor's min pin bites anyone that gets close enough to her. She's bitten me twice!! People assume that my 2 Dobies are mean, but they love people and love attention, but nobody suspects the killer min pin next door!

Well, what do you consider an agressive breed? There are no 'aggressive breeds'. And if there are, its the owners fault.
