Private citizens can own decommissioned fighters like an F4 or something like that. I think they have to be certified as no longer able to carry any weaponry etc. Sorry ... I don't have any links.

If you have the money, yes. You cannot own a US fighter. The Air Force, Navy, or Marines would rather cut up for junk a perfectly good surplus plane than have it preserved. Look how few WWII planes are around.
Also, American fighter jets sold to foreign countries have a stipulation that they can only be destroyed or used up as surplus and not sold to another country.
The F-86 Sabres are not American, but from Canada or another country licensed to build.
There are several Russian, Korean and Eastern Bloc aircraft flying here.

Yes you can, Michael Dorn of Star Trek fame owns (owned?) an F-86 Sabre.
You cannot own any aircraft in current use or production or capable of carrying weapons.
But there are a number of old fighters/fighter trainers out there. If you go on line to www.tradeaplane.com, you can find a number for sale. You do have to purchase a subscription however to browse.
Needless to say, there are significant training and insurance issues however with high performance jet aircraft of this nature.

Yes Courtesyaircraft.com
They have some of the old ones and good ones.
Once, I saw a MIG-29 Fulcrum on sale on a different sight, it was bout 10 million though. Shame u cant get F-14's, Instead of buying Venezuela, I was going to play Top Gun. But ya, many ppl have decommisioned military fighters. Unfortunately, they wont carry weapons anymore, but if u have the money and the brains (or the lack of) u could probably add some Machine guns if u got hold of em

Yes, However they would be jets that are not currently in service. In addition they would have to be fully demillitarized ie. Gun and any weapons pylons removed/rendered inoperative. That having been said, the amount of maintenance would be prohibitive to someone without almost endless supplies of cash. The average Navy squadron has between 150 and 200 maintainers working multiple shifts to keep aircraft flying. Best bet would be to get an aerobatic aircraft that is currently in production

I suggest you think of buying a Viper jet. Rather then running after what cannot be afforded. Even if you buy it, the maintenance and sortie cost would kill your passion.

Your starting point for search should be
http://www.viper-aircraft.com/

I am suggesting this cause its an affordable alternative, its aerobatic yet comes with speed that is as fast as a fighter jet.

If you enjoy owning a fighter jet just for the sake of flying why dont you just buy a simple plane the whole excitement about owning that would be bombing targets its like having tank without ammunition

According to the FAA, there are two privately owned F-16's. One in Crenshaw County Board of Educations school in Alabama as a display piece. The other by NASA.

as long as the weapons systems are disabled permanently like the weapons systems are taken out then yes...but for most jets that people can actually buy without going broke the flight time to maintenance is like 1 to 30....its too much work for a single person
