Either would be nice if they are the vinegar kind and not the mayonnaise type which leaves a funny taste in some peoples mouth and make make them self consious of odor or something being stuck to their teeth.

Here is a red potato salad you may want to consider:

Red Potato Balsamic Salad
INGREDIENTS
2-1/2 medium red potatoes, diced
1/4 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoons diced roasted red peppers
1/4 (4 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained
1/4 (10 ounce) can quartered artichoke hearts, drained
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3/4 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/8 teaspoon mustard powder
1-1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
DIRECTIONS
Place potatoes in a saucepan with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, then cook for 5 to 10 minutes, until tender. Drain, and transfer to a large bowl.
Add the onion, red peppers, olives, and artichokes to the bowl with the potatoes. In a separate bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, oregano, basil, mustard powder and parsley. Pour over the vegetables, and stir to coat. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

either one is okay to serve on a date...ask the person which one do they like the best..and go from there...if it were me, i'd choose the potato salad. A great macaroni salad is Kraft macaroni salad..it is really good and you can add tuna or whatever they say can be added to it. and as for a potato salad, i would go with a german potato salad, they are real good. good luck

Potato. Be careful not to add too much chives or parsley (if you add herbs) as you dont want it in your teeth!

Macaroni contains wheat and could cause bloating!! As a woman i can say i dont feel too sexy after eating wheat!

Also macaroni is a tad too much like tvdinner food for a date.

Personally I'd prefer a pasta salad. Maybe a tri-color rotini in a vinaigrette, no mayo. It's colorful, tasty, and doesn't seem as heavy as a mayo salad.
