He is a 2 1/2 year old weimrainer. Even if we keep him awake all day, lots of exercise, etc. he still wakes us up with his whining at the crack of dawn. If we don't get up within 5 or 10 minutes, he starts jumping onto the bed. What can I do to help him sleep just a little longer/later?

He goes out to pee, then wants to stay up. I don't feed him right away--usually 2 hrs. after getting up. He was housebroken in a crate but sleeps in our room. Very stubborn--he is NOT allowed on the furniture.

Don't have a clue, I have a shih tzu who doesn't allow me to stay in bed past 6:30 and she's been that way forever. The only difference probably with mine, is after she wakes me up and I finally just give up and get up, she's curls up at my feet and takes a nap! So, to get even I keep waking her up.
How about closing your door to your room, make the dog stay out of the room.

It is not a matter of getting the dog to sleep longer it is a matter of having the dog obey you. You should be able to tell the dog to "go to bed" and it will leave you alone. The dog is training you to get up when it wants, this is not right is it? You need to learn about dog behavior and how to teach your dog obedience. You learn this from enrolling in a good obedience class.

My dogs do the same thing. I let them out to pee and they come in and go right back to sleep. it doesn't bother me because I have to get up about 5 to pee, too.

Draw your curtains and make the place darker, a bowl of warm milk before bed time will help him relax quicker and being relaxed should make him sleep longer, do keep me informed on your progress

This is really normal for dogs to do. Maybe try putting him in his kennel until your ready to get up, and it might help refocus his sleeping pattern to match yours. Also train him to stay off your beds, couches, exc. that will help with the jumping up on your bed.

Crate train him. Keep him a crate at night. If he make a whole bunch of noise, just ingnore him(don't baby him, don't even tell him no.) He will get the picture within a week or two.

he is still young he probably just needs to pee and then will go right back to sleep. my dog sleeps at 11:00PM and wakes us at 7:30AM just to go outside pee and come right back in to go to sleep. So rather then clean up pee I get up (half asleep) let him out, let him in...and go right back to sleep. Give him a chance..as he gets older he'll hold it longer..until he gets too old then you be back to square one.
