There are several ways to get the best airfare: Try one of the big companies: Travelocity.com. or Expedia.com. The advantage to them is that they show many different airlines and the cheapest prices for both the specific date you want to fly and the dates surrounding that date. In case your plans are flexible. The disadvantage is that you are locked into the fare dates. If you want to change a date due to injury or an emergency, their fees can be extreme.

Try the airlines directly. Either their Web sites or direct telephone lines. Some of the Airlines offer low price guarantees meaning that if you find a cheaper fight on another Web site they may match the price or beat it. Each airline is different though, so you have to check them out individually.

Just remember, if you are going to try to get the cheapest flights, the airlines normally have restrictions. You may have to purchase the ticket 14 or 21 days in advance, there may be no refunds or changes allowed. You really need to know these restrictions. If you try looking for a last-minute flight you will end up paying a lot more, although there are occasional exceptions. I personally, managed a last minute ticket to S.F on the Millennium New Years eve. And received a better price than my friends that had booked a month in advance! But… you cannot depend on this at all.
Usually travel agents do not get the lowest fares and sometimes they tack on a commission. Travel agencies used to be the best way to get the best airfare, but with the Internet, It is now just as easy for individuals to check themselves.

If you call an airline directly (they all have toll-free numbers), be sure to ask them if they have any specials. Often they do have specials, but you have to ask them about them!
So be careful about restrictions on tickets. Be aware of charges for overweight baggage and remember that many of the very CHEAP fares you see in the Travel section of the local Papers are fares that are quoted, “without taxes” Taxes can really add up.
Have fun and happy travels.

There is no one cheapest place, buy I have a standard list of sites I go to.

The first thing I would do is check www.farecompare.com. Do your search there and they will give you the prices for:
- Northwest
- Continental
- Delta
- United
- American
- US Airways
It works similar to Travelocity, Orbitz, and Expedia. If I find a fare I like there, I will then check out Travelocity and the airline's site. Sometimes you can save a few bucks by going directly through the airline's site.

Also, I HIGHLY suggest signing up for email alerts on their site. They will send you an email whenever the fare drops below a certain price - BEFORE the price gets published on Travelocity or the airline site. Then check Travelocity or the airline site every so often after you get the email - sometimes these published fare only last for a few hours.

You can also sign up for email alerts at Travelocity. By then though, the fares have been posted.

Finally, I also check out the other airlines not affiliated with these engines:
- Southwest
- Jetblue
- Skybus (Dirt cheap fares, but useful only if flying to Columbus, OH)

If your dates are flexible, try to fly on a Tue, Wed, or Sat. Also, use the +/- 3 days options on Travelocity to find the cheapest fare for a weeks worth combination of dates all at once.

FareCompare also has many more tips of how to get the cheapest fares...

Check the Ad section (usually on the last page)of the Travel Section of your Metropolitan Sunday newspapers. You will find advertisements for fares for both domestic and international flights. They usually list their available fares and their corresponding destinations for a certain time period. The availability of these fares is limited so you have to call them right away. These have their phones listed. These are called "bucket shops" or airline consolidators, who get a consignment of plane seats, that the airline could not fill otherwise, and so they consign them to these operators at a lower price and hence tht price per ticket is much lower than the regular published price by the airline. Also if you have a definite date of travel in mind you could check with the airlines 15-25 days before your expected departure, since this will be the time when they make their unsold seats available at a lower price. Then there are also Internet websites such as Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz etc that you could checkout for fares. I have had good luck with Expedia compared to other Internet discounters.

The cheapest often has too many restrictions. I always buy throught the airline website. If I have to change a ticket for any reason, I usually pay $50-$75. The lowest prices will also be for the lowest seasons. It will cost more to fly to the Bahamas in the summer and winter but cheaper in the fall. it also depends how fast you jump on sales.

you can actually go to everyone's website and just compare, but know that prices change periodically like every 20 mins or so, depending on how many people are booking at that moment. I'm a Travel Agent and I work from home, I travel and make 60% cashback and plus I save more money than an individual would. Visit my booking engine: which is www.kateztravel.biz, there it will explain to you about an opportunity and also you can visit and check out airline fares, and much more....The Travel Industry is getting big and why not be apart of it and be your own boss.

Good luck, visit my website..we have competitive prices...we are partners with Travelocity.com,Hotels.com and our competitors are Expedia and Orbitz..You can compare yourself. Goodluck

If you need more questions please email me at kmartinez1976@verizon.net.

There are a lot of places to go for. There's no one single source that has all the cheapest prices for every flight. I can tell you this though, places like Expedia and Travelocity are, more often than not, unlikely to have the lowest prices.

Check with travel agents, kayak.com, or directly with the airline (some airlines like JetBlue and Southwest don't normally list prices on third-party sites).

I just found out of www.skybus.com today. They don't fly a lot of places but the tickets can be as low as 15 dollars! I was looking at the website today and saw a few for 30 bucks!
