I left this moring for a job interview and my 1 year old pom. seemed to be fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. Well, when i got home 2 hours later he was very sick. He can not stand for more then just a few seconds before his feet buckle under him. He looks miserable and is NOT acting like himself. I took him to the vet and he game my dog a shot of steroids and that was all. No diagnoses or anything.
Has anyone had a similar situation happen with their dog? What was the outcome? Thanks!

Get another vet. Did he run tests, the fact that he did not give you any info does not help. But is your dog vomiting, eating...
If eating good sign, if vomiting, get to another vet ASAP.
Could it have been heat?
Eating is a very good sign, my dog went lame, acted like she couldn't walk, cried. She was given antyinflammatory and fine the next day.
This is tricky, if your gut is telling you that your dog needs more help, get a second opinion.
I have worked for vets and they are not all ethical, i.e. you can tell when their car payment is due because they order extra tests etc.
Find a vet that will take the time to talk to you.

You didn't indicate if the shot made the dog recover or not.
We have a pom that acted the same way and he was diagnosed with a blood sugar problem. He acted the same way yours did and lost control of his bladder at the same time.
Look at the dogs gums and see if they are pale or white. If they are rub some syrup on the dogs gums.
Start feeding him some veggies ground up in a food processer or blender. This has done wonders for my dog who is now the livliest of all four of my dogs.
I use about a tablespoon per day of a mixture of carrots, green beans, snap peas and squash.
I keep the mixture in the fridge and use it every day on his regular food.
Sometimes I will add a little beet but that makes everything red and they stain terribly.
Poms will sometimes have a slight liver issue that makes their blood sugar fluctuate a lot and this seems to regulate it and keep him on an even keel.

Well, how is your pom now? You do need to call the vet to get some information about what happened or what his prog is. I mean, that sounds like it could be a neurological problem. Also, it helps to read up on your breed to make yourself aware of any "health issues" the breed encounters.

Did your dog eat rat poison, i just watched a show on emergency vets, someone brought their dog in and said it colapsed on the stairs and it couldn't stand, the dog went into shock before they new what was wrong then they found that their was blood flooding into his intestines and the dog died of rat poisoning, i'd go the a way better vet thet diognoses instead of guesses if i were you.

I would never attempt to guess about what is wrong with your dog. I would only suggest that if you do not trust the vet you took the dog to then scoop the dog up and try another vet.
