People have different assumptions as to the cause of AD/HD, both of my children are diagnosed with it, one takes a Ritalin long acting (kinda like extend release) and my other takes Concerta, my youngest took about 3-4 different variations/doses to get to his happy medium which is the concerta, but it truly is a trial and error thing with medication. Some also believe allergies are possible a factor, but my eldest has no food allergies and several environmental and none have changed or gottn better w/or w/out treatment for the AD/HD and allergies themselves.

Ritalin and other similar drugs for ADHD can be very effective, but everyone is different. Each person has to find the right dose, and some people have different side effects. Ritalin is a stimulant, but there are also non-stimulant drugs on the market for treating ADHD.

There are some mild side effects that can be dealt with by getting the right dosage. There are a few small risks such as possible death in people with existing heart conditions, though that hasn't been proven for sure. And stunted growth may also be a risk, probably because the stimulant makes you eat less.

i do not know the cause sorry. i do know that Ritalin can be very effective. i am raising a 10 year old girl who needs Ritalin . the nice thing about Ritalin is you do not have to take the drug every day. i only give it to my child for school. never on the weekends or during breaks from school. the drug only lasts 4 hours at a time so it wears off fairly quickly. this drug has been in use for 80 plus years. i also tried a couple other adhd drugs with bad results. one of them made her try to hurt herself. also the other drugs are made to be taken everyday no breaks no drug free days. my child likes her Ritalin for school but is very happy not to have to take anything evenings and weekends.

SYNTHETICS is RARELY EVER A GOOD IDEA!!! ADHD has been linked to a VITAMIN D deficiency!! Amongst other things. The side effects vary from one person to the next and I will NEVER ADVISE ANYONE TO GUINEA PIG THEMSELVES OUT TO THE DRUG INDUSTRY! IT'S JUST NOT NATURAL! You have been taught to believe in the commercial ads and the common everyday routines your parents / others do and tell you to do...but have you ever considered going OUTSIDE the LINES?? QUESTION EVERYTHING YOU THINK IS SAFE and NORMAL!!! You'd be REAL SHOCKED to KNOW the REAL FACTS and TRUTH about SOCIETY'S "NORMALS & SAFETY'S"!! Do you eat plastic? Ever considered it? Does it sound good or even safe? Then WHY would anyone ingest SYNTHETICS, they are precisely the same thing!! MANMADE isn't KIND!!! NUTRITION is the GREATEST PREVENTION and AIDE in HUMAN / ANIMAL RECOVERY!! ORGANIC VS MANUFACTURED, RESEARCH IT YOURSELF. Common sense or IGNORANCE? Does the word MUTATED sound like a good thing? Have questions, please ask me anytime!! SAVE YOURSELF and LEARN HOW TO PROTECT YOU and YOURS!!! The FDA, EPA nor the USDA are out to save you...The sicker the better, the more drugs you take the better...the better their income!!! ADHD is a cause and response to ones POOR NUTRITION!! Processed foods, GM foods, SYNTHETICS and more. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE NEED TO KNOW FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR HEALTH, LIFE AND FUTURE!!!
