If you check there are many flood stories and different Gods caused them. The Hebrews have more wild info about Noah's flood that I will post in my last question of the day.

Why does everyone pick on YHWH? Zeus and Oden caused floods too! ;-)

Because a large number of people still believe that Yahweh should dictate government affairs.

As the story of Noah extends from earlier flood myths, I cannot pretend that it ever happened, or hold a god accountable. But I poke holes in the beliefs held by people who worship an invisible man who (according to their book) slaughtered millions in his name.

because people only care about dissing Christians. we are the annoying ones who use the flood in any and every circumstance. i really think we should start using a different story, but the flood portrays God's promise, and it's a good story.
and no one cares about Zeus and Oden, even though they did. everyone picks on Christians when it comes to that stuff. the stereotype is that Christians tell stories and Muslims are kamikaze terrorists. it's not true, but that is what everyone is saying. but not me. i hate stereotyping religions. i mean, it isn't just one person, it's many. you can't judge a religion by one person.

I don't really have much knowledge on the subject, but it could be because God made a covenant with Noah that he would never do it again. If the other Gods made no covenants, then the other floods weren't as significant to the humans that may have survived. This is just my opinion.

So did Marduk and others. Marduk took his people to the Americas and put them underground until it was safe to come above ground. The Hopi creation story began with them coming from below ground. The flood happened, but it was caused by a passing planet or sun which caused a massive tsunami starting at the South Pole and reaching to the Nor ht Pole. It "bounced back and forth so strong was the tsunami.

Actually, the "God" of the Old Testatment IS the other gods. The Principalities and Powers. The first word for God in Genesis was Elohim, which means more than one.
They have power to do things, but are not perfect. And the Word says that God will punish the Hosts of Heaven too when the time comes.

This was the only flood that wiped out all life on this planet. No one but the one true God could have made that happen. Zeus and Oden are fictional.

sweetie
most of us who arent Christian , know that many of the biblical tales can be found elsewhere and we accept that
so we tend to a- not believe such a flood happened and it is a passed down moral story
or b - dont blame anyone

it is only Christians who believe that it was YHWH and not any other God because they dont believe in any other God
( with respect * hug * )

edit
some other answer just proved my point eek

God admitted He caused the flood...but He promised not to flood the earth again.

Wiki has a whole buch of others as well:

My thoughts are that if god is so powerful, then why kill someone by drowning them. It is a most horrible way to die. I won't go into the details here, but google it and see.

There is only 1 God. Such disasters as a flood which destroy whole societies are because of their sins.
