Some dad's don't say I love you or show affection easily. Doesn't mean he doesn't love you but it is difficult. A friend of mine never heard his dad say I love you and as a result he never said it to his father. Didn't mean they didn't love each other but they were not an openly affectionate family. When his dad passed away it was too late and my friend has so many regrets.

How does that story help you? I would seek out your dad and give him a hug from time to time just because... . . I would say I love you dad once a day just because. . . .without expecting the words in return. Just do it knowing/believing he loves you. . . . No regrets.

Besides -- after the initial shock and your dad picks himself up off the floor -- he will get used to it and probably take a queue from your displays to respond in kind.

Good luck

had the same thing as a teenager, looking back I acted exactly as he was treating me!Also my Father was not good at expressing feelings of love to us kids, he was quick to tell us he was proud of us, we did a good job, or that we were out of line.even though I cannot remember the I love yous, he showed us each and every day, by working 18 hours 6 days a week to send us to private school.we knew we were loved immensely, but it would be nice to remember hearing him say so, don't be too angry with him though, you will miss him very much when the day comes that God takes him away, just as my brother, sisiter and I do.

Life is just like that sometimes. I never remember my father ever saying a kind word to me unless he expected personal gain by doing so.This Is a serious answer.

I'm not sure what to tell you. I don't know people treat me like crap, but I've gotten used to it. Every time I stand up for myself, It usually turns out badly. I've stopped resisting and I've accepted the fact that maybe I am 'crap'. Probably not what you like to hear... (you aren't crap - no one is). But sometimes its easier just to ignore it. :(

Maybe you can help me out with my family question too. I asked it like a minute before you asked yours.

ummmm
sit down and talk to him
but be serious

if that doesn't work,
try taking responsibilities
gain your dad's trust

try showing that you love him

good luck!
