The woman's name goes first because back in the day a woman's wedding day was the only day of her entire life where she was important.

If the bride's parents are inviting, naturally her name will come first. But if the invitation is from Bridegroom's father, I think it is reasonable that his name will be first. In my community, after the bride has come to live with husband/inlaws, the boy's father also hosts a party.

Traditionally, the invitation comes from the parents of the bride. It often says, "Mr. & Mrs. John Doe invite you to the wedding of their daughter, Janet Doe, to Joseph Smith".

Therefore, the bride's name comes first.

It has been that way since the bride's family hosted the event...hundreds of years.
