I am following a low cholesterol diet and really love avocadas, but my food list says I can't eat them. Are they really that bad for people with high cholesterol? I don't mind giving up the meat and sugar, but not the avocados.

Avocados are very low in cholesterol, but high in fat. The good news is that it's "good" mono and polyunsaturated fats. Consult your physician.

I am 58, and was the same, and have been taking medicine for my high cholesterol and blood pressure. It is going out to eat often that effected my levels including triglycerides that was 950. Since started to eat at home more often and eat properly, my level dropped about 250. My good cholesterol increased too. So, it is going to the restaurants that is bad because does not allow to control the fat intake. I also quit smoking and am walking a lot too. The pills are there to prevent any clogging, along with blood thinners with aspirin.

Avocados are rich in Monounsaturated fat, which can reduce your LDL (bad cholesterol) without lowering your HDL (good cholesterol). I really don't think you should avoid avocado. But if you have special medical condition, check with your doctor about this.

There is no cholesterol in avocados. If it never had a liver, it never has cholesterol (with the exception of crustaceans). Though they are relatively high in fat they are very good for you.
