My Uncle has 2 Rotties, they got neutered and are fine, take him to a good vet and he will be fine, age has really nothing to do with it.. but it is best to get them neutered at a young age...
Look at these websites, they should tell you all about this...
http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/diseasesall/a/neutering.htm
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/spayingneutering.htm
This site should really help...

If he's in good health, there shouldn't be any complications. At our hospital he would get a complete physical exam, be current on his vaccines, have a current heartworm exam and negative fecal, and have pre-anesthesia labwork run. Then he would be admitted, have a pre-anesthetic injection to relax him, an IV catheter, modern and safe anesthetics, IV fluids, monitored for heartrate, oxygen level, and blood pressure, and be monitored by a technician throughout the procedure. He would also receive pain medication before the procedure, and be sent home with several days of pain medication and detailed home care instructions. This would be minimum care at most vets. I would not use a low cost spay/neuter clinic--they are low cost because they cut many corners on safety to save money.

Great question and now I am conviced you are a responsible dog owner.
This is actually a question you should be asking the regular vet that he goes to. After all he knows his heath better than anyone.
Some dogs actually should not be fixed if they are close to the end of their life span.
I had a 15 year old male unfixed I adopted from a shelter and due to his age we all ( vet, shelter , and myself) thought it would be more than he could handle at his age.
Please talk to you vet about this because of course the life span of all breeds is different.and he could just be in his prime or in his senior years right now.

I'm not sure that a vet will neuter a 7 yr old Rottweiler. You need to contact your regular vet & ask. If the vet says no he's too old, you can go to www.PetEdge.com & order a male dog wrap. It's a band like wrap that goes around his body & covers his genital to stop him from marking. If he tries to mark, the urine will be contained in the wrap. I've used it for my male poodle & he doesn't like it so it took putting it on him twice & no more marking. The wrap may be a safer alternative.

Whomever told you that neutering a seven year old dog that has been marking will stop that behaviour is less informed than he will have you believe. Oh ... you won't have a viable male marking anymore, but you'll still have a dog that marks.
That said ... my concern would be the age of the Rottie vs the need to anesthetize for an operation which will not do what you are hoping it will.

neutering is a simple operation and rarely any complications happen. i would love to say that nothing ever happens, but there is always the rare case. my dog was a year or so old and had complications due to vet neglect. only thing i can suggest is that you take your dog to a really good vet. i don't think age or breed should matter. it should be fine.

While there is always a risk with surgery, I've had many older dogs neutered with no problems.
