Honestly, why not? They're breaking the law by coming here, and every document relating to international law ever written has affirmed the right of countries to enforce their laws if they don't violate international law. So, other than pure emotion, is there any logical reason not to secure the border?

I firgured it would be compared to the Berlin wall. You're forgetting a couple things. First, the Berlin wall worked the opposite way: to keep people in. Secondly, there were no UAV's, lasers, surveillance cameras, and proximity sensors when the Berlin Wall was built. And thirdly, the Berlin was was unjust. A border wall is completely justified.

Why wouldn't it work? I doubt a bunch of Mexican farmers with no sophisticated tools would be able to scale a 12 foot concrete wall.

Nope - not one single reason.

I think that illegals should be forced to work on the fence before they are deported.

Wall are "Messed Up" --- Honestly, you want a separation ... tear down the roads that parallel the border. Look at a map. It' right there in front of your face!!!

In Texas, the border divider is two highways (USA & Mexican) ... well without that stupid highway, that parallels the border (along with paralleling a Mexican highway) ... well, it would be that much harder to get here. Certainly, allow limited roads that go from North to South (vice versa) but destroy the roads that go East to West (vice versa) along the border.

Then we wouldn't need a patrol along a highway that goes East to West. It would be a one time cost to destroy, and pay off a few select businesses along those roads. Cost efficiency & bottle neck commerse. That's the way to get stuff done.

Amidst all of the discussion and witty banter regarding this subject, I have yet to hear any reason from either side that would negate the necessity for a fence along the border between the Republic of Mexico and the United States of America.

We are spending enough money on this stupid war $450 Billion!!!!!!!! A stupid fence would not stop them from crossing. It probably wouldnt even slow them down.Like the saying goes, "If there is a will there is a way. It would just be more tax payers money down the drain. What they should do is start arresting the business owners who hire the immigrants. Not just little fines and slaps on the wrists.

If you want to be as dumb as the Russians who built a wall in Berlin that ultimately did not accomplish it's purpose,go for it.

Most citizens understandably think superficially and if somebody tells them a big old fence will rid the US of illegal aliens, they will believe it even if it is all a "feel good" illusion.

Yes. Because it would be a huge waste of time and money and because fences don't make good neighbors. We are not at war with the Mexican people. Please read about the Declaration of Independence and actually read the document itself. We all came from immigrants, lets not laugh at everything they died for. Our country is big enough to accomodate them legally and in the true spirit of the American Ideal. God Bless George, John and Tom and I don't mean the Beatles (although God Bless them too!)

first of all, is there a law that forbids you to put a wall? secondly, i don't think there is anything wrong if you build a wall as long as it is in your property. if you are talking about your country's border, better talk to the authorities. no one wants other people to invade their land so maybe there are reasons why they aren't stopped.

Two good reasons to build it are that the illegals need construction work, and the ladder/shovel manufacturers need a longterm economic boost.

We don't need a fence..... we need to make it very costly to try and come here illegally, like shoot ANYONE crossing the border illegally.
If they don't cross at a legal entry point.......... BANG!!!

Once word gets back, THEY WILL STOP.

This isn't illegal, unethically or cruel....we must stop the hemorrhaging at our borders.
