Hi Sri, that's a pretty good question. It has a lot to do with the cultural preparation of both people. A marriage is a partnership, so as in any partnership (whether it be in business, theatre, boat ownership, etc) there is an exchange of energy/thoughts/decisions, as though there were two distinct minds working as one.

I've personally found that passion is the key to keeping any partnership together. Behind the passion there needs to be a deep level of respect shared by both people. If one person does not respect the other, then no matter how much love or passion exists there simply will not be a way to keep things in synch.

Many of the arranged marriages I've been exposed to have pre-defined relationship guidelines, such as the man does the financial management while the woman bears children and takes care of them until they're in high school.

In any case, the bottom line here again is sharing and caring based on a healthy respect and liking for the other person.

All the best.

Myself, I would prefer to marry for love. But then many of these marriages dont work out. For some reason arranged marriages have a greater success rate. I wonder if this is because the people who arrange marriages are from a more traditional background? Are they really happy? Or is it just that it is expected of them to make it work, so they stay and put up with being unhappy. I wonder?...........I think a love marriage is better, but that is just my opinion.

Here we go again...Why would you want to marry someone who was arranged for you, only to (maybe) find out that you don't even like that person? I can't imagine!

I think you must love someone deeply in order to want to stay with that person. That's why there is so much cheating going on now, because there is no true love involved.

In an arranged relationship, you don't have the option to date anyone else. What happens after you marry and then meet someone you'd rather be with? Kill off your spouse?

I think marrying for love is far more reasonable than arrangements. Those are just my thoughts on the subject.

I think Anthony has it right...It's all a matter of respect for your spouse. Regardless of how you meet, or how the marriage comes to be, if you can truly respect each other, your marriage has a chance of sticking. Even if you truly love each other, without respect, your marriage is doomed.

The other thing that is really critical is commitment. I think that those who marry for love sometimes lose sight of this...And that one of the reasons arranged marriages work is because the spouses make a commitment to the marriage even before they meet each other. Both of the people in the marriage need to be committed to making it work, or it has no chance of success.

It also takes time to learn about each other. Those who marry for love often do this during the dating process...Those who marry through arrangement sometimes do this in the early stages of their marriage.

Both can work...both can fail. It's more about the two people in the marriage, than it is about the methodology.

It does not matter, as long as you both are compatible, like and respect eachother and are committed to your marriage.

With love marriages, you know the other person well. If you have a long courtship in arranged marriages, you can have the same benefits.

Good luck.
