there isn,t a switch that cuts it off because of low oil.first thing to do is get it to a reputable shop and make sure there isn't other damage.running a car low on oil that has high miles on it can cause severe problems.i looked on our shop computer to verify no switch for low oil.

The computer didn't shut it down due to oil level, Ford has idiot lights on some of the older vehicles for low oil level but no Ford doesn't shut down the PCM for oil concerns.. Only Fuel and overheating on some newer engines (For Fuel, after a accident it cuts power to the fuel pump that has to be reset... For overheating it resets automatically)

I think your engine might have seen that great big old engine in the sky... bring to a mechanic and let him manually turn it over to see.... But I think you are having some seizing in there dude..

I bought a truck like that once, the owner said it just shut off and wouldn't start anymore.

When I got it apart the crank and rods where frozen together from the heat, but then it was a Dodge.

find out if it has any trouble codes and have them cleared, you might do this by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes

Yes, there probably is a safety switch. My 99 has one but the manual says to have a mechanic do the resetting. It's in the computer brain I believe.

I don't believe there is a safety switch. I am reading the manual and there is no mention.
How long was your warning light on?.
Do you have an electronic warning system?
I hope you haven't blown your engine.S++++
Also recheck your oil. If you have over filled you may cause damage that way.
I will keep checking for you

Some one need,s to go in there and clear the code . If you have the code reader look in you owner,s manual for the location of the port. If not take it to a shop it wont cost much to delete the code i don,t think. Some auto supply store,s will do it for you as well.
