Unfortunately, I think it's probably a natural reaction to repression.

If your father, husband, sons and most other male members of the community in which you live regard you in a patronizing, infantilizing fashion, it's hard not to develop one of three attitudes. Your choices: 1) be miserable, 2) become a rebel or 3) decide that you LIKE life on (and under) the pedestal and that you must be very, very SPECIAL to be treated that way. The first two choices can be dangerous to life and limb...and the third dangerous to one's concept of reality.

BTW: this isn't something you find among all Muslim women...or for that matter, JUST among Muslim women.

Every fundamentalist, patriarchal sect, religious or not, tends to produce women who are unhappy, in danger or full of themselves. Interact with Chasidic women, the wives of Southern Baptist preachers or hard-line female Scientologists, for example, and you will also witness many sad examples of what warped theistic or societal input can do to destroy a woman's self-esteem or, conversely, elevate it to unrealistic (and hard to put up with) levels.

That some women in this situation DO survive this onslaught and retain their humanity and humility speaks well for the resiliency of our gender, as well as the love and empathy of SOME males, even in the face of outmoded or evil doctrine.

But beware of women who think they never have to s**t because doves come and take it away. And while you're at it, be sad for them, too. And maybe cut them some of that slack they seem incapable of affording you and me.

I've seen it here as well. Although they seem to not be answering your question at the moment. But I have seen that here on YA. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds. But it's THEIR problem not mine, I just don't let it phase me. I don't give them the satisfaction, they are too smug as it is.

Perhaps it is because compared to men in their religion they are so low on the totem pole they feel an emotional need to make themselves feel better by devaluing others.

I think you mean some Muslim women, who live here in the united states and treat americans like crap...I Live in the heart of the biggest muslim population in the united states and deal with that in my medical career. I don't want to seem "racist". They pay taxes just like us, have families like us and have jobs like us.But I do understand, I feel the frustration.

Muslim women don't all think they're better than the rest of us. C'mon, be nice. Please?

Okay so a few do, but not all, I'm good friends with a few and they are altruistic and humble... maybe even more so than I.

Do you really think a Muslim woman will answer that?
If she is a Muslim woman of faith, she won't be looking at this web site.
Her husband might pass himself off as his wife and answer it.
My wife says it is because you are unclean!
(LOL)

I never got that impression from them, so I guess I really don't know why, since I've never thought about it, you know, because I've never encountered it.
