Do you realize that God saved you from Himself? If you say hell do you realize that hell is the wrath and punishment of God? So basically God is saving you (by the sacrifice that Jesus shed on the cross) from the wrath of His judgement. When you are saved you are saved from God's wrath, by God Grace and for God's Glory.

Yes, I have been saved from the payment that was required for my sin through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, "for I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."

God, for His reasons, known totally only to Him, decides when someone is taken home to Him, and when someone stays here on earth. Probably not the sort of answer an atheist and God-denier wants to hear, but thats it........ Why do people thank God when they are spared and allowed to keep living, while other equally good people perish? Because people are people, regardless of their beliefs. A better and more appropriate Christian response would be to pray for the families of those remaining and who are grieving, and those who may be suffering materially because of the destruction wrought by a natural disaster. We are all going to meet our maker eventually anyhow, so I wouldn't spend too much time thanking God that I remain alive. I would consider it a repreive of sorts, God giving me additional time here on earth to get my act together and really do His will. It would show us that God is the one really in charge of things, and that life could end at any moment. Do not take for granted that there will be a tomorrow for you. If someone is going to be thankful, they should be thankful that God is giving them another opportunity to get things right with Him. It says in Scripture that the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. Our earthly lives are not what needs to be saved. They are short, nasty and brutish, and will end soon enough. Our soul is what needs to be saved, and if that happens, we will never die - ever. I don't expect an atheist or non-spiritual person to really and truly understand any of this

I don't look at it that way.......God can't stand to be around sin and we are all sinners, but with God's grace, we are saved from Hell. Look at it this way: sin is a darkness, a deep pool of quicksand, if you will, that keeps you from God's love. You can't tell that you are in sin, cause sin feels good for a season, but once you admit you're a sinner, the light comes into your life and you know that without Jesus, you will stay in that hole. Once you've been saved, you don't want to go back into that Hell you were in. Do we still mess up as Christians,? Sure, but God is forgiving and will forgive us IF we admit our sins to Him. Cool, isn't it? To be loved that much that nothing can separate us from God ever again.

Hell was not made for man. We chose sin, and when we did we became unholy. We could no longer be in the prescence of God, because he is Holy. So, since we started a rebellion, just like Satan did, the only place we could go after we died was Hell. Since Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we can come to him and ask for forgiveness, and be reunited with our father in Heaven.

God saved me from living a life of sin and the constant search for happiness in my life on earth. There is no true happiness without God. The peace and joy that comes from God is within me daily and will be for eternity.

I dont know how I can add much to this, as you said it all pretty much.
God not only saved me from hell, but from the pits of hell living on this earth and never knowing Him , and to just be satisfied for living in sin and curse of sin.
God sent Jesus to die for us all, not only to be saved, but to live a life free of sin now. we are to be free of sin, not free to Sin, just like JEsus was.
God saved me from all the horrors of this world, trying to live without Him, and I can never say thank you enough or Praise HIm enough. But, I must weep when I hear someone say they are christian, yet live in sin, and say grace has them covered. Is that what Jesus died for, for us to stay the same?? What a dishonor to God to think like that, let alone live like they are still the devils. Oh God please forgive them all. But I know they must make the choose just as an athiest to simply belive and follow you . WE pray it so.

Pope John Paul II responded to this question in: Crossing the Threshold of Hope by stating that we are saved from radical, ultimate evil. Namely, we are saved from being eternally distant from God, the source of all Goodness, Truth and Being(life, existence). This distance was caused by the Original Sin of Adam and Eve and our own personal sins.

And it is because there is one thing that God cannot do. He cannot abide sin being in His presence. That is why He provided the way for all of us who believe, that we may be with Him for eternity, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
