Ok, my family wants to get a dog, but we want it to be cute, a toy dog, and low maintenance. It needs to be good with children and not need very much exersise. What is a good dog for these characteristics???

btw, I forgot to add, we could deal with brushing and everything, but not like, watching it every second of every day. Also, by little exersise, it means like, it is small enough that walking around an apartment or house would give it exersise, but a nice walk outside would be good every day. Also, it needs to be an indoor dog.

oh. And mellow. Also, a cat isn't an option because my dad is allergic.

Well..a dachshund might work. They're really good with kids but are also good protectors. They're very playful and they love to cuddle. They are also small, so they would fit in a small house or apartment. The only thing is they love to run and exercise. But even if you took them for a walk every day, they would love it. They also have a back problem, because they're so long. You just need to be careful that they don't jump or go up stairs a lot cause it could paralyze them. So that's probably the closest thing to what you want.

Unfortunately, there's no breed of dog that can fit all of those. Most small dogs are long haired, which requires maintenance almost every day brushing it. Whether it's good with children or not depends on the dog and it's personality. All dogs need excericse no matter how big they are or you're going to have a very fat and unhealthy dog in your home. Maybe you should rethink getting a dog and look towards another animal.

You need the wind up kind. The kind you wind up and it runs around and barks then you pick it up and put it on a shelf. You do not want a real dog because they require exercise, brushing, playing with it. They require that you gain knowledge concerning dog behavior, you train it. It becomes part of the family that requires attention. A goldfish comes to mind. That should fill your bill.

I have a sheltie and I love it. They are fantastic around kids and dont bite. But they do shed so if your family has any allergies to dogs maybe not get this kind. They are so cute and playful!

Dogs ARE high maintenance. Unless they're stuffed.

Sorry
