If your faith is completely null when it comes to God (and not just the Christian concept of God but ANY god)

then to whom do you feel thankful in general?

You know, when you wake up in the morning ...and feel the need to be thankful for all that you have..what do you do?

note: just curious.

Why would one have to be thankful to anything, or anybody?

I'm loving life. How wonderful that all these molecules that I get to use for about 80 years work so well, because if they didn't, I'd simply not be here... But none of that implies that there is a god, or some sky daddy that made it happen.

There are more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in all the world. That said, there is somewhere another sun, with planets revolving that did, has now, or will evolved some sort of life (And life that evolves tends to get more complicated.... Even if it is billions and billions to one, that still makes it a certainty, since the universe is timeless, has no edge, no center no beginning, and no end...(concepts difficult for the ordinary person to grasp).

So, hon, I don't feel the need to be thankful to something supernatural.... everything about life on this planet pretty much follows rules of logic and science. If an organism evolved something that helped it age long enough to reproduce, that gene was saved. If an organism made a lethal mistake in its division, that gene and therefore that organism didn't make it alive long enough to pass it on.

But if believing in sky daddies, miracles, folk lore, and the writings of stone age starving shepherds living in the Middle East 2000 years ago comforts you, continue to pretend.... fairy tales are for children of any age...

I think that there is a bit of a disconnect here. There is an assumption that atheists in general somehow don't care or are compassionate. I think this is a mistake to make in general. An atheist would be thankful for all the hard work past generations have done to put them in a situation where they can live a good life. They would be happy that their is science and reason to bring them life enhancing technologies. They might wake up and think wow I am glad I don't live in the dark ages. You can be thankful for all kinds of things without thanking a God. They probably don't thank things outright because that is generally held as superstitious. But they would think wow if it wasn't for all those people working so hard I wouldn't have all this. Atheists are generally very happy and proactive about their lives. Because in their view its the only one they have.

Personally, no one. I never wake up in the morning with that feeling. I'm happy most days just to hang out with my nephew, do a job I love, play my guitar.... etc.... and don't really feel the need to thank anyone for those things because I earned them (or the ability to do them) through my own work. I suppose if I had to thank someone it would be me because I made all those things possible. Go me.

I don't have faith in anything. Faith is a nonsense belief people employ when they are too lazy or scared to investigate the facts of the matter.

In life, you have only yourself to thank, because ultimately it's your own motivation which gets you to where you want to go.

Of course there are people who do things for you, but they have their own agendas, selfless as they may seem. Parent's (and other relatives) may be the exception, but there are plenty of parents that are indifferent, or even cruel to their children, so that is not a steadfast rule.

Ultimately, you can really only count on yourself, so the best attitude to have is, hope for the best from people, but prepare for the worst.

i appreciate every good thing that has ever happend to me. there are even moments where i stop and say "wow! it's a beautiful day outside" or whatever the case may be. i acknowledge it and just kind of take it all in. i just don't thank "god" for it, because to me (being an atheist) that would be silly. not that it's silly for someone who does believe.
at the same time, when something really crappy happens, i don't ever think "man! why did god let this happen." i just take a deep breath, and hope that things get better.

I thank my husband for working hard to provide the money for all we have.. (I don't work for money I am a stay at home mom so I get payed in kisses and hugs and thanks mom's.. )

If it's not a monetary item but rather a feeling I am thankful for I thank the person or people who helped to give me the feeling..

I don't think any higher power or deity is responsible for anything what we have either monetarily or emotionally is due to the hard work of people..

I do not believe any deity from any belief to be real. I feel thankful to those that deserve it - my parents, my spouse, my friends, my community. They each in their own way give me the love and support I need, and I in turn return it to them.

Sorry when I wake up at 2 AM the first thing on my mind isn't thankful.. it's coffee.....

First it isn't a faith. Just like it isn't a faith not to believe in faeries.

Most of what I have, I have worked quite hard for. There is no reason to thank anyone in particular unless they did something to help me.
