Try putting drops of eucalyptus oil around the perimeter of your garden. i.e on the top of the fence or where ever the cat in entering your garden. It doesn't cost much for a bottle. You'll have to redo it though when it rains. Cats hate the smell.
This method was told to me by my vet when my cat suddenly started going to the toilet in my living room. Only had to do it once. It did the trick.

I'm not quite sure what to say--the neighborhood strays use my flower garden as their bathroom and the plants are lush and overgrown! Their urine isn't as acidic as a dog's, won't kill anything, and the solids are buried in with the flowers between the batches. I've never seen anything killed due to poop or pee in there. There's a section of ground next to the garage where I can't get the mower in close so it's thicker, and several cats go over there too, you can't even tell from the vegetation. Sure I have to hose the solids a little there, the grass they pull over it to hide it doesn't actually bury the stuff, but none of the grass dies.
Personally I don't have a problem because it's never harmed my plants, never stunted them, never caused any to suddenly die off.

Get a cat! Cats dont go to the loo in there own gardens generally and they keep other cats out! Either that of try orange peel it sometimes works but also you do find 1 or 2 who dont mind it!

Oh I know this! But if you have particularly good hearing then it might drive you mad too. For about £20-30 you can get motion sensor cat detectors that, when the sense movement, make a really high pitched noise. It drives cats mad (hurts my ears too lol) but it really works! It's the equivalent to a very loud car horn to us- they don't half run!
Good luck (oh yeah and vinegar and cat tape don't work either although a hose pipe has minimal sucess)

Half fill an empty, clear pop bottle with water and place on its side in the area you dont want them to 'go'. The reflection deters the cats. Works a treat in my garden.

I saw a great device. It's got a sensor that detects movement like those security lights but instead of switching on a light it switches on a water sprinkler system.
Remember to switch it off before letting the kids out into the garden.

LEMONS!! cats hate lemons, either cut and slice them and put them around your garden, grate the zest and do the same or use the juice from the lemon.
I found that cutting up (slicing) 2 lemons was enough for our garden and it worked.
Oranges work too but lemons are better.
Good luck

I have used this & it works!! red pepper Crushed not ground. sprinkle all over garden. When the cats walk in they get it on their paws. They end up with it up there nose & in there mouths. This will not harm them either. If it disapates just sprinkle again! They get the hint!!

For some weird reason orange peel works. Looks a bit messy, but keeps cats away.
