I have 5 cats and 2 dogs. They are all infested with fleas really bad. I just purchased the "HARTZ" brand of once a month drops for all of them. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for it to take effect.
I just gave the animals their first treatment 2 days ago , and they are still badly infested with the fleas.
2 of the cats seem to be very sick over this, they are getting very skinny. I have no other means of money, as I have spent my last penny on this product, so I don't have the finances to be taking them to a vet.
I was just wondering if maybe it takes time to get rid of the fleas. I expected them to be gone instantly with this product.
Obviously i was wrong.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!!??????
To be more specific, I bought "Hartz control, once a month drops", the one where you apply it their back between their shoulder blades.
Hopefully someone can help me, as I love my animals very much and can't stand to see them suffer.

Hartz not only won't kill fleas, it will harm animals, and it can kill cats. That may be why your cats seem sick and aare getting skinny -- it may have damaged their kidneys.

The only effective and safe flea treatments are Frontline, Advantage, and Sentinel. Use the type for cats on cats...you can use cat medicine on dogs but not the other way around.

A dose for a cat or a dog under 30 pounds costs about $13.00 and lasts a month. Advantage works faster than Frontline...I have seen dead fleas dropping off a cat within 15 minutes. That may sound more expensive than stuff you can buy at a pet, feed. or grocery store, but they actually work and won't harm the animals.

I would take the Hartz stuff back to where you bought it, tell them it doesn't work, and get your money back.

Hartz has a huge number of pet owner lawsuits in the works because their pesticide mix in their flea and tick liquids was never regulated, many pets died from it. I'd throw the rest of their stuff out! A google search on 'hartz lawsuits' will get you all the information you need on this!

Advantage, Revolution or Frontline are excelent products. They say they start working in 30 minutes, but actually the fleas take about 2-3 days to completely die off. Normally it costs $10 a dose, and the dose DOES work for 2 1/2 months so can get you through the summer, but it's available from pet supply stores or from vets.

It's possible you can get a number of free samples from a vet, if they know money is a problem. The humane society may be able to help out as well. However, do NOT dose an animal that's just had meds put on them recently, you have to check with the vet first (a phone call) to find out how to make it safe to give them something else. Wash the stuff off the back of the cat's necks, they may have absorbed most, but getting rid of what's still there on the surface is important. You don't want to overdose with new meds--these are pesticides and can be highly dangerous. Call the vet first and tell him what you tried and ask what he or she suggests.

A thin toothed comb can be used--the fleas get caught in the tines and can be pushed into vasoline by fingers to kill them. It's safe, but will take a while. Don't use flea collars either, if they get wet they can drop their substance onto the skin of the animals and give an overdose. Most of them don't work anyway.

And don't use Tea Tree Oil! It's toxic to cats. Dogs are ok with it but definately not cats. Euclyptus repells fleas, but doesn't kill them. You can try doing an online search on 'herbal flea control' to see what else is offered out there, but be aware that some things are toxic to use around different species of animals.

I would not use Hartz. That product is bologa. I went to the Vet and they gave me a product that is twice as effective and works instantly. Just a drop behind the collar and in a week no fleas. It was call advantax, i believe. I never had flea problems since.

Hartz products do not work and may make your pets sick. The best product is Advantax purchased through a vet, starts killing fleas the minute you put in on. If you don't have the money, charge it, borrow it do what ever

Hartz or other inexpensive flea drops don't work. When it comes to this, you get what you pay for. Also, they tend to have pesticides in them which can be harmful to your pets. Get something from the vet's office, be it Advantix or what have you. Those are the best bet. They also have a pill that will get rid of the fleas, but only works for like twenty four hours, so you have to clean up the environment to get rid of the fleas in your house or yard.

I have heard of animals getting ill from Hartz. I have also heard that the stuff does not work. I use Frontline plus and the fleas were gone the same day.

Please do not waste your cash on any of the over the counter property you purchase at puppy shops, Wal mart, or the food market. you may get benefit or Frontline out of your vet for approximately $12 a tube (it truly is US funds, BTW, so would be some million/2 as lots back Canadian). Promeris is a lot extra high priced as that is totally new. in the experience that your cats stay indoors, you may get via with treating them approximately each and every 6 weeks, yet whilst they pass outdoors (like the canines does i'm constructive) then you certainly easily ought to attend to as quickly as a month. very usually right this moment of year they run specials - purchase a undeniable variety of tubes, and get one unfastened. mutually as that is extra high priced up front to purchase it this way, you will keep funds via getting the unfastened tube. call your vet to verify in the event that they are working this actual - mine already is. back, spend your cash on something which will paintings. Flea collars do not paintings (and could reason them to get annoyed pores and skin around their neck, and hair loss), and numerous of the products that are offered value effectively could make pets very unwell. you do not keep funds via determining to purchase something low value, regrettably.
