Because we've been spending so much money in Iraq, where there was no terrorist activity before our invasion. Saddam didn't allow it.
We should have been spending the money rooting out the rest of Al Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Although the US has been controlled by Republicans in Congress and the President, it is still Democrats' fault. Duh!!!
Seriously, just because you throw a half a trillion dollars at a problem doesn't mean it will go away. You actually have to have a plan that will work, and work it. Bush had no plan that would work.
I hope our country can protect itself from attacks, but if not, I'll definitely tell you guys I told you so. Iraq War didn't make us more safe, it made more nations dislike us and took the pressure off of Al Qaeda.

Several reasons. They have almost unlimited funding from donors in the Arab world, primarily Saudi Arabia (not to mention the many Islamic "charities" that funnel them money). They have political refuges. That is, regions that we are not allowed to chase them into for political reasons (not unlike the VC during Vietnam). They have a worldwide network of military hardware suppliers with two neighboring Muslim countries (Syria and Iran) to deliver the supplies to them. Finally, they have the ability to disappear into the general population. This makes them virtually impossible to track without assistance from the local population. Locals that assist us run the risk of having their families tortured and killed as punishment for their help (yeah, these are the same charming people that our own Congress wants to hand Iraq to by withdrawing our troops prematurely)
The President said at the outset that this wouldn't be a quick war. That it would probably occupy a generation or two. I'll make a prediction for you. In the near future, the Dems in Congress will eventually prevail and get our troops withdrawn. While they bask in their apparent victory and boast of things returning to normal, any US credibility for sticking by the little folks in the Middle East just got pissed away. Worldwide respect for the US military's capabilities will plummet (just like after Jimmy Carter's abortion of a presidency). And Al Qaida or whatever they will call themselves will begin planning and carrying out terror attacks in the US itself on a more regular basis since their money isn't tied up in Iraq anymore. The fortress mentality will again become US policy and we will sit here behind our armored walls, so to speak, and pray nothing gets through. This will happen unless some of these Congressional jokers' brain cells start bumping together and generating rational thought that is good for the country rather than the party. Ok, off the soapbox. Have a nice day.

Because 1/2 of Pakistan is off limits. Al Qaeda could open a Disney Land type theme park in Western Pakistan and nobody could do anything about it.

The invasion of Iraq was the greatest recruiting tool al Qaeda could ever get. They went from a fringe organization, to having groups setting up franchises all over the place, just like Starbucks.
They recruit people by telling them that the US is coming for their oil, gonna make them all christians, make their kids dress like MTV hookers, Wal-Mart on every corner,....etc.
They see the west as decadent and godless (I've heard the same from christian types) and they want nothing to do with it.
The invasion and the way it was handled gave their propaganda some legitimacy.
Giving money to Halliburton and Bechtel isn't the same as fighting the "evil doers".

Our actions have led to giving Al Qaeda a name, where before they were a small group, they are all over the news worldwide and radicals from around the world have rallied to them in opposition to the west. We focused our money all into Iraq which had little to do with it when we should have been using our $$ for heavy intel and surgical strikes on specific targets wherever they hide.

Just spending money does not make Al Qaeda go away. The West will lose many millions of lives and whole economies if these people aren't curbed.
Many more tough choice are ahead of us.

i think of this is all part of Bush's plan. Bush's super plan: Catapulting the propaganda "Iraq became into at the back of 9/11 the whole time!" "What Al Qaeda? never heard of it!" "Al Qaeda is an invention of the liberal media!" "If we enable them to get more suitable, then there will be extra terrorists to kill!"

REMEMBER WHEN WE WENT IN TO IRAQ PRESIDENT BUSH ADVISED THE PEOPLE THIS IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF WAR..IT WILL BE A LONG WAR AND WE MUST BE PREPARED FOR UPS AND DOWNS.
WHEN PRESIDENT TRUMAN WAS IN OFFICE HE DECIDED TO USE THE ATOM BOMB WHICH KILLED THOUSANDS....IN ONE DAY. BY DOING THIS IT ENDED THE WAR AND SAVED MANY LIVES OF OUR MILITARY.
PRES. BUSH CANNOT DO THIS BECAUSE THE TERRORISTS ARE SO SCATTERED AND SNEAKY. THEY CANNOT EVEN SHOW THEIR FACES THEY ARE SO COWARDLY. SOME EVEN DRESS IN BURKAS...REAL MEN, HUH? HIDE BEHIND A WOMANS SKIRTS , USE LITTLE CHILDREN BY STRAPPING BOMBS TO THEM AND LETTING THEM GET BLOWN UP....BOY, ARENT THEY BRAVE......???
WE WERE ATTACKED, AND THEY WERE THE AGGRESSORS. OSAMA WAS AT THE ROOT BUT SADDAM WAS A TERRORIST TOO. INVADING SAUDI ARABIA......USED GAS ON THE KURDS WHO ARE CHRISTIANS...HES NO BUDDY OF MINE.
