My own sweet doggie does that all the time, because the vet says he has allergies. Rather than sneezing and having watery eyes when they have allergies, like people do, it manifests itself through their skin instead, making them very itchy, especially in their paws. They lick the paws to relieve the itch. My vet said I can give my dog regular Benadryl to help the problem. He said about 1 pill for every 10-15 pounds is a good rule of thumb, and to start out with less pills to make sure. Good luck!

In the absence of an obvious wound, sting or bug bite, I would consider this to be allergies. Your puppy could be allergic to your carpet, your lawn, chemicals you use to clean your floors. Check the soft, tender skin between her toes, back and front paws. If the skin seems bright or inflamed, you can have her tested for allergies.

Now, if she is licking her pads/feet in addition to cleaning other parts of her body in what has become a nightly/daily routine, your puppy may be bathing...nothing more.

Many breeds do bathe themselves like cats: Rat Terriers, Weimaraners, and many other short-haired breeds, especially. My Weimaraner bathed like a cat nightly. My Rat Terrier licks his paws, then wipes the wet paws across his eyes to clean off the discharge secreted from his eyes (he has allergies).

As someone else posted, do consult your Vet on the next visit or schedule a visit just to discuss your concerns.

First thing, check the paws for broken or shredded nails. Then check for any redness and swelling. I found that my dog has allergies and the paws were red, swollen and very damp. Don't listen to anyone who says there is nothing wrong with continued licking of the paws. If it is allergies, your vet can take blood to determine what your dog is allergic to and prescribe medication. Sometimes, they may just prescribe prednizone and a shampoo to soak the paws in.

Check that there is no infection or something in the paw check the pads to see if they are damaged or have hard spots on them
If there is nothing wrong then the dog may be doing this as a habit or finds it relaxing or the dog could be bored
If worried you could try putting some thing on her paw to try and stop it

Hi,
I am assuming that you have checked the paw and there is nothing sticking out. Sometimes, there can be a really tiny splinter and it might be getting infected. Or she might have a rash or poison ivy, or she may have a bug bite. There are other conditions, but I am not very familiar and I don't want to freak you out. Obviously, you love your dog or you wouldn't have posted this question. If this continues, I would take her in for a vet check. Apparently it hurts her if she keeps digging at it. My dogs have had splinters from our deck before and I had to have the vet remove them because they were too deep. But it's always best to have something like this checked out. If it's been weeks it's time to get it checked.

Have a good look at her pad, she may have trodden on some glass somewhere and still has a splinter of glass embedded in the pad or maybe sliced it on something sharp.

You could bathe her pad in warm salt water for a few days. This will draw anything out. If this doesn't work I think you should see your Vet. She may need antibiotics in case there is any infection or an anti-inflammatory injection to get any swelling down.

Hope it all gets better quickly.

check in between her pads, she might have something stuck in there or a small cut or raw spot. put her paw in warm water with epson salts in it and soak it for 10 min. dry it good and put some antibiotic crean like polysporin on it. do this a couple of times a week for about 2 weeks and see if it gets better,if not then have it checked out.

Did you look to see if she has picked up a thorn. I find also that small ticks lodge between the pads. Hot weather can also affect them. I would have the vet take a look especially as it has been going on for a while.

It could be many reasons. Maybe her paws are sored?
Maybe there is a bug/bugs between her toes ?
Maybe her toe nails are too long and she felt discomfort ? or Maybe she stepped on some sense attracted her ?
