scriptures or arguments to see if they make any sense?

I would never quote a scripture or quote a preacher if I had not carefully considered whether the scripture or the preacher made any sense. Quoting nonsense verbatim without examining it closely is why believers lose so many arguments.

I have examined the Holy Scriptures as they apply to your statements and know that they apply Directly, Correctly and with Convicting Power. Amen

Romans 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Romans 1:21-23 (in Context) Romans 1 (Whole Chapter)

Romans 1:21-23 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

As a "believer" I have to agree with you. I do however, understand the zeal with which some new Christians want to answer questions. They are no doubt, born again Christians, but they just don't have the experience either as a Christian or as a Bible Scholar to completely understand the scriptures. So many people take scripture, out of context, to try to prove a point, and their reasoning is just not accurate. I do applaud their enthusiasm and know that as they mature in the Lord, their understanding will be reflected in their answers.

Frankly, as an alternative believer, I immediately tune out anyone quoting scriptures or even mentioning "Jesus said..." or "the bible says..." I already know what they say, If I ask an opinion, I want an original, thought out one from the person(s) I ask, not some canned tripe written thousands of years ago & mis-translated a few dozen times.

I lose arguments, because I am not quick with the comeback....I'm a "sha well, uh pppllll to you too then" type of arguer. lol.
Good suggestion, however most people that do quote scripture have a very good idea of the meaning and the context of it...

Yes, I do. And the one that bugs me the most is the dismissal of speaking in tongues and any of the gifts..oh, they will discuss the fruits of the spirit till the cows come home, but mention the gifts and you hear,,"Oh, but that is not for today".....read the book, please....give me a scripture for that.

Another one, is about a secret rapture...there" is a catching away of the Christians "when the Lord returns" not in a secret way...every eye shall see him...how is that in secret? Show me your scriptures...

Yes, you have to look at the context. I hate it when people quote verses that seem to apply, but when you go and read the passage it is found in, you find it has a different meaning.

I think it's funnier when they quote scripture wrong than when they quote stuff that makes no sense....

"Well, as Jesus says in Romans...."
"Well, the Bible says love the sinner, hate the sin"
"In exodus, Jesus says"
.....I think the Moses ark one was a joke, but....rofl/

You are correct there. I was guilty of that once. I said something about a guy named Kent Hovnd who was a Christian guy that preaches against evolution. I asked for athiest to respond on what they thought about his teachings. They told me that they don't worry about someone that is a convicted fellon. I didn't realize Kent Hovnd was convicted of money fraud and tax evation. It kind of made me look stupid.

I think they follow the idea of quantity over quality. Which honestly isn't a bad idea for their position since the quality is sadly pretty poor.

If they did, then they would be lying. Cutting and pasting falsehoods without examining them is a virtue to too many.
