If he didn't get the whole long root of it, it can grow back. I had one on my toe many years ago, before the freezing or lasers and such. My doctor said the only treatment at that time was cutting it out. The root on mine was about an inch long. It ran down the side of my toe and it warty part was right on the end of the toe (my longest one). I had to wear sandals to school for weeks. Compound W will not help those kind of warts. It's a waste of money. Give the foot doctor a chance to follow up before you try any thing else.

Plantar warts are benign (noncancerous) growths that occur on the sole (plantar surface), heel, or ball of the foot. Pressure from standing and walking often causes them to grow into deep layers of the skin.

The human papilloma virus (HPV) causes several different types of warts, which are the most common type of skin infection. In some cases, the HPV virus dies within 1 or 2 years, and warts simply disappear. Podiatrists may recommend having plantar warts removed because they often are irritating and painful.

Warts, esp large ones, need more than one treatment to completely go away. Don't pick it, thats how they spread. Go back to the "foot doctor" and have him treat it again. If he says NO, go see another doctor. If its any relief, eventually, years from now that wart will probaby go away on its own.

There was a study done that if you cover a wart with duct tape for several weeks it is just as effective as any doctors treatment. It "sufficates" the wart. Check out the article.

Do not get it cut out any more. I had one cut out of my foot FOUR TIMES. It grew back every single time in under a year. Now I have a huge ball of scar tissue in the bottom of my foot with a wart in it. I am getting it freezed this time. A dermatologist is doing it.

Let your family dr. or a dermatologist or podiatrist freeze it every 2 weeks until it is gone. Please don't let anyone pressure you into having growths cut out of your feet. Podiatrists apparently believe in this approach, but the wart grows back a lot of times. Every time they cut the scar gets bigger and deeper and bigger and deeper.

Now I get to walk on a lump of scar tissue for the rest of my life, and it hurts. I was told by 2 plastic surgeons that nothing can be done for it.

With that type of wart I believe they usually have to do more than just cut it off. They have to dig into your toe and make sure they get the root because it will continue to come back. With the skin color and spots I would definately go back to the doc....maybe a different one. However, I had one on my heal and I used the Dr. Scholls (sp?) wart remover liquid and it went away and never came back...you just have to be faithfull with it and patient.
