I am also getting married in december so congrats on your engagement and believe me i understand how hard it is to pick colors for a time of year that has so many rich colors. I opted for black and white as they are my fave colors anyways and set a formal and elegant theme. The reds and greens you mention are great colors for that time of year but your reservations about the event not being a xmas party is what you need to look at. You're right its a wedding, not a christmas party so automatically you know any version of red and green together is going to ruin the effect. My suggestions take one of those rich darker colors and mix it with gold or silver (two great colors of the season). Most places will be decorated for the season and have silver or gold decorations and lighting. Our place has gold so we chose the B&W w/gold accents. You can also use white with either color and create more of "winter" theme rather than christmas. Whatever you decide, i think it will be great! Good luck!

I agree with several of the above posters - Go with a deep green OR a deep red (or merlot, or cranberry, or burgandy) but not both red and green. Using both colors really make it too Christmas-y.
You can pair it up with metallics, and white, black, or ivory.

Personally, I think that if you don't want it to be a Christmasy-theme, you should stay away from red and green.
I suggest a deep, deep plum and possibly lavender, with a bit of gold accent.
Or if you have your heart set on merlot/cranberry, pair it with gold or silver or a dusty pink.

I like the merlot color better then the cranberry. maybe just white or off white instead off sage green. I think that would be over doing it a bit much..

Congratulations on your engagement! Sage green is nice, but deep rasberry is not an attractive wedding color - to me. Why not consider going with winter colors since it is a winter wedding. You can get some really attractive colors out of that and it will not look like a Christmas event.

I think you should change the green to white. Green and red isnt a very subtle christmas theme. May do mostly red and white with little green accents.

i think the deep deep red and sage green would look more like christmas party not too much like your wedding.

If you don't want it to look too much like a Christmas party, then you might want to stick to either the reds or the greens, but not both. Good luck and congrats!

Sorry but i think thats a little tacky. I would only use either the green or the red as a main color but thats it. Or you could do green and white as your color and have red centerpieces. Or the other way around and that would look cool but not too christmassy

Why not some blues. Like a deep dark blue. It can be like winter wonderland. Red seems more of a fall color.
