I know exactly what you mean.
This is normal whether you're on meds or not.
Listen carefully. Don't become lopsided. Don't become 'split' or fragmented. Balance and integration is the key here. It sounds like you're trying to live too much in the 'sacred' world and neglecting your responsibilities in the secular world. Some believe only the secular world is valid. Some believe only the spiritual world is valid. Both are legit. As an ego, you must become fully functioning in the outer world.(or they will repossess your car!) You can have the best of both worlds, but you must better train those parts of yourself whose job it is to relate to and interact within physical reality, otherwise you lose your effectiveness and your stance as an individual becomes weakened. (I know you're scared, but listen!)
I don't believe we should sacrifice one world for the other. If you still find yourself physically alive, there's a reason for it. Get good at it. The benefits will spill over into your spiritual world. There is much to be said on this subject. E-mail if you feel the impulse.

Don't listen to the rude people, my dear.
It is clear that you need to discuss these effects with the doctor who prescribed the meds. It sounds like you need to consider whether some other medication would better meet your needs. Unfortunately, the only thing I would recommend is illegal in the United States, although there are some states where you can get medical marijuana if you try.
The effects of marijuana on creativity and spirituality are well known. What is less well known is that it also helps in coping with the so-called "real world," or what we might more appropriately call the muggle world. You may have to cope with it, but there's no reason you have to take it seriously.
As I say, too bad the most appropriate medication is illegal, isn't it?

I'm so sorry about those rude people above. I had depression for 7 years, and felt that spiritually drugs were not a good option for me. I have a friend with BPD who just went off her meds (which were for bipolar... which she is sure she doesn't have). She also found that now she feels more "real".
I am a homoeopath and nutritionist, and I also have some knowledge of herbal supplements and special diets which can help, depending on what particular health problem you have. Anyway, contact me and let me know more, and I will be happy to share anything that I know with you.
I used daily prayer, homoeopathy, Bach/Bush flower remedies, crystal therapy, diet, lifestyle, and herbs to help with my mental health problems. Life has improved greatly for me on this regime. Email me so I know more specifically what kind of area I should look into to find the help you need.
Congratulations on the spiritual progress you are making. God has created so many natural things that can help with the illnesses of His children. You've taken a step of faith in Him.

Added: Drugs, alcohol, some foods... you name it... chemicals in our brains CAN effect our spiritual receptivity. That's the reason why God has given his people health laws (such as "early to bed, early to rise"). The spirit and the body are connected... they affect one another.

Sorry you are going through this difficult time. A Dr. of Psych once told me that in India, people with schizophrenia are thought to be the most spiritual people and are treated as such. I don't know if this is true but... I understand what you are going through. Meds do shut down some areas that have more to do with the creative side. However, we all have to function in this world and if being off your meds makes you unable to function that is a problem. My advice is to stay on them and try to follow your spiritual path anyway the best you can. Your illness is part of your journey and it is meant to teach you something. Don't avoid that. Find other ways to tap into your creativity like listening to music, holistic therapies, and just doing art without judgement. I wish you the best.

Do not take meds that disrupt good feelings as well as bad. Insist that your doctor continue to find different med. Many people have your problem and are actually endangered by such drugs. I use God's grown meds for creativity when the world's condition depresses me. Crazy people aren't insane, just crazy to keep trying to be normal.

I think that would be evidence that your feelings about god and spiritual encounters have something to do with an unhealthy mental state. If you go back on the meds and find that you are having a happy, healthy life and good relationships with the people around you, maybe you won't need all of the encounters with spirits to make you feel fulfilled.
Yes, this is from someone who doesn't believe in god, but I used to - and I would trade that "spiritual experience" for having happy relationships, friends, job, etc anyday.

Please ignore the ignorant comments if you can ... psychiatric medication can have the effect that you mention. They put a damper on your life, feelings, etc. The woman who recommended a therapist with a more spiritual approach is absolutely right.
I'm sure you'll find someone who will work out a therapeutic regime for you that will not suppress your natural connection with the Divine.

if you've been perscribed meds by a doctor, don't stop taking them. talk to the doctor about your concerns with losing your creativity and connection with god. he might try perscribing something that has a different active ingrediant that might help.
