Is it a conspiracy to force us to buy the least common multiple of the two, which is 40? If it is, it sure ain't working!!!

Studies have shown that only 80% of all hot dogs cooked on an outdoor grill are ever eaten in a bun.

The remaining 20% are:

1) Lost as they roll off the BBQ and into the ashes or on the ground.
2) Eaten by children who do not want the bun.
3) Added to cans of Libby's Baked Beans

As a result, hot dog roll manufacturers began to provide the buns in bags of eight instead.

They also stayed away from the traditional serving of food packaged by the dozen. This is because bakeries would traditionally sell "baker's dozen" which was actually 13 of the item, such as 13 donuts instead of 12.

If they had selected a dozen, they would have required to give 13 buns, while hot dog producers would not be bound by this and give only 12 hot dogs. And selling 12 hot dogs alongside 13 buns would be just wrong!

(And if you believe all this, then I have some great ocean front property in Arizona I can sell ya...)

Nathan's hot dogs come in packs of 8. They are the best hot dogs i've ever had.

It's sheer brilliance on the part of hot dog bun marketers. It certainly increases their sales, huh?

its because ..... when you make the dogs you tend to eat two before you put the rest on the buns...
Also have you noticed when you put them on the grill you either burn two or drop two on the floor....

because if you buys less buns than hotdogs the marketers know you'll have to buy more hotdogs. aha. it's strategy.
