i am 40 weeks pregnant, everyone asks me if i am having twins, the ultrasound i had two days ago said that the baby is around 10+ lbs. yet my doc wants to wait for another ten to 14 days. i am having health problems like traces of protien in my urine, high blood pressure, trouble breathing, constant swollen hands and LEGS not just feet but my whole legs. i just want to know if it is ok to get induced even though my cervix is closed, would it be the same as if it were open? i've been induced before, with my first child but i was 1 centimeter dialated.

should i demand to be induced or should i wait it out?

I was induced with a closed cervix. Trust me--it will open you up like none other.

I had preeclampsia and was induced at 32 weeks, so I had a very "immature" cervix. However, all would have turned out well had the baby's heart rate not started to drop and my BP started to raise to a dangerous level.

Listen to your doctor--that's the best advice I can give you. Don't demand anything. Listen to your doctor and go with what s/he says is the best situation.

It can still work even if your cervix is closed, but I don't know that I would let them wait 14 more days. If you are having all of those health problems, then it is time for that baby to come. Also, with that large of a baby, they could induce you and you still not be able to deliver, and need a c-section.

I am a labor and delivery nurse and induction on a closed cervix does work.. sometimes. Induction works depending on your body's readiness and the way that they attempt to induce your labor. Everything you said suggests that it is time for delivery... although some doctors just tend to be more prudent with inductions. I would talk with your doctor about your concerns and explain why you are concerned.. many are willing to listen and help when they think you are in the right frame of mind and thinking logically rather than just trying to get it over with

With a closed cervix your chances of success are about 5%. It stinks, but it's true. Depending on the size of your baby they may have to do a C-Section to get the baby out before he/she is too large. I hope that's not necessary, though!

I would demand to be induced in case of complications. You should have already been induced. The more stress you are in with these problems, the more stressed the baby is going through. I would definitely demand it!

everything is ponting toward a need to deliver. An induction may fail if you are closed, but with a 10 lb baby your chances of needing a c-section are pretty high. I would do it.
