who detest religion and spirituallity, spend so much of their precious time in the Religion & Spirituallity section?
Has their boated ego somehow convinced them that any of the people who believe in G-D will "see the light," because of some philosopher's, or scientists theory?
Or, is it some childish antagonism that they believe will enable them to some how feel better about their lack of belief in anything, other than the word of man?
Surely if there is no proof of G-D (and this apparently, by their standards, would be a sufficent reason for everyone not believe in a CREATOR) then we additionally should not believe in LOVE and thus can not be LOVED.
Could this be the true source of their own disasifaction with themselves? An unloved child unable to love, is hurt by what he/she can not attain?
Could it be they keep themselves from
attaining that very thing they need so much?
What do YOU think?

I'm sure you'll have a difficult time doing so, but make an effort to leave your egos at the door. Naturally you'll be forgiven if you are unable, by virtue of what you are.

Wow, so many responses, and all so intelligent and kind! Well first of all, many of you will be surprised to know, that I equate most religions with "the devil" (that's the EGO for all you philosophy majors!)Second, I don't consider myself a "representative" of G-D. (G-D seems to want you vile creatures to be SAVED, for some reason!? While I, would prefer to landscape the walls of my kingdom with your severed heads and smell your flesh burn for the next 1000 years! Not a very good "representative" I'm afraid.)
Concerning the point made about G-D and LOVE; if a justifiction not to believe in G-D is that there is no proof, then that should be held for LOVE as well,
because despite all the roses, affectionate words and spent condoms that fall around your "love's" feet not one of those things (or any THING) is PROOF of LOVE. LOVE is a matter of faith and therefore a hypocrisy for those of you who do not believe in G-D. those who put G-D before their religion, they alone will profit......

Oh Great Gazoo, it is not religion that is dangerous, it is how mankind's EGO uses and has used religion that is dangerous. Do not ***/u/me that religious zealots alone hold the true word of G-D, lest you should ***/u/me that all science (which has been responsible for such great discoveries in the name of humanity; as the atomic, neutron and hydrogen bombs), must also be held accountable for all the actions of man's manipulation of such knowledge, as well.
Also, I see no reason why gay people can not believe in G-D. If they do what they feel is right and dismiss whatever scripture inconvinences them, it is no business of mine. The whole, "Thou shalt not kill" thing has always been craw in my side.......

I think that you hit the nail on the head. I asked a question earlier about why atheists insist on using sophistry in their arguments regarding God, and never present an affirmative case. The response was full of... you guessed it, sophistry, mostly about how the Bible was wrong about this that or the other thing.

I think you hit the nail on the head, its hard to even understand God if you can't feel love. Its hard to feel love if you can't feel God. Maybe we should just pity these folks for what they are lacking, and call it good... leave them to their self-delusions and need to rip down what other people feel, know and believe.

Notice the response to your question and all the talk about the damage of *religion*. Ask them once about states that sponsor a policy of scientific atheism and the death toll. Ask them what happens when you seperate the exercise of power from any objective moral belief framework. And when they answer, hold their feet to the fire about the Khmer Rouge, or Mao's China, or Stalin's USSR. Think the excess of official Christendom are bad, look at what happens when official atheism is in charge.

That should answer your question.

Okay, let's take a look at your logic:
Premise 1: God does not exist.
Conclusion: Love does not exist.
This does not follow. In order for this to make sense, you need a second premise:
Premise 2: If God does not exist, love does not exist.
If you think you can show that second premise to be true, go ahead and try. So far I don't see any reason why it would be true.

The reason is simple enough: religion is a waste of time and resources, as well as inherently evil in its own right [ref. 1]. It would be an advantage both to yourself and to society as a whole to give up on superstitious nonsense, figure out how the world actually works, and use your energy to make it work better. As for the existence of some sort of god, there is no evidence whatever to suppose any such thing, and a considerable amount against it [ref. 2].

Your presumptions in this case fail to make sense, or to make your point.

You presume that those of us who do not believe in a creator must be dissatisfied, which simply isn't true.

You presume that those who are athiests do not believe as strongly in their own convictions as you believe in yours. You seem to understand why you would be here discussing your beliefs, but not why I would.

You attempt to make some sort of correlation between God and love. I have loved, felt love, been loved, experienced love. I have not done any of these things with any God.

And, to give my answer to your question, what makes this worth discussing when I obviously am not religious? The answer that I have exceptionally strong beliefs. Those beliefs are based on more than a book, they are based on what we have all actually witnessed, which is the innumerable murders commited in the name of religion.

While I may not believe in God, I certainly believe in the brutality that has been commited in the name of God, and that will always be worth talking about.

Allow me to explain Frank, as it is obvious you are not one of those seemingly "very intelligent" ones....

I detest religion? thanks for telling me how I feel about the subject matter. Is it my ego? Nope - is it your ego that makes you preach to those non-beleivers? Do you think they will just submit to your God because of what some priest says? Or, is it childish antagonism that causes you to run around preaching hell and damnation to those outside your faith? Does it give you a stiffy to do that?

Unfortunately, all your points are wrong. See, just like miracles, the reason why atheists are in this section has an ordinary, mundane explanation. Religion surrounds us. We cant spend money, turn on the TV or even go to the local supermarket without being accosted by God and Jesus and his followers. Fundies are trying to legislate their religioon into our laws. If you think Im gonna stand around and let that happen, you are sadly mistaken.

Why is it that so many people on both sides of this seemingly endless, pointless debate fail to grasp the simple concept that "just because you say it doesn't make it so"? I seriously doubt that anything I post on yahoo answers is going to make the God Squad quit their churches and I also doubt that anything will make the Atheistic Avengers get that ol' time religion. So I'll buy you a beer and you can tell me what Jesus would do so long as you won't get your undies in a bunch when I ask "Jesus, who?"

It's because this is Yahoo!Answers, and we have the correct answers to many of the questions asked here.

While some atheist may hope to change others' minds, in general we think that there are plenty of other reasons to give the correct answers to questions asked. I'm amused at how many folks seem to think that evangelism is the only possible reason for believers and unbelievers to talk to each other.

Your claim that if there is no God, there is no love makes no sense whatsoever. Doesn't the fact that you have to resort to that kind of desperate pretzel logic to defend your beliefs against us suggest that we're right? It should.

As for the involvement of ego, your own question is simply dripping in unwarranted arrogance. What you wrote has countless mistakes (e.g., the leap of illogic I just mentioned, your apparent belief that atheists don't believe in anything "other than the word of man"), and yet you write as though you're saying something meaningful and insightful. You're not. You're full of yourself, with no apparent reason.

I show up here pretty regularly and it's because whenever I log on to this site and I'm looking at the main page I usually see a question in all caps that says HEY ATHIESTES (sic)...
It would be rude not to respond, wouldn't it?

Edit: Actually, I'm not at all surprised to discover, that you equate most religions with "the devil". I'm sure, all except yours...

Reasons for posting here:

1 - Debate is fun, and intellectually stimulating.

2 - Pointing out logical fallacies in the arguments of those who think they are posting logically infallible arguments is even more fun.

3 - Educating people about the gross misunderstandings they apparently have about the theory of evolution is necessary if we're ever going to get rid of this idiotic anti-scientific, ignorant population you seem to be pushing through your American school systems.

4 - If I wasn't answering questions here, I'd have to actually get back to work.

I think that atheists hope that there is not a god. If there were, then they would have to be held accountable for their lives.

I further think that atheists refuse to look at any evidence of the existence of God and write it off as coincidence, theist brainwashing, lies, and distortions. There are evidences of a higher power, but that would suggest that we humans are not the highest order of being in existence.

Finally, I think atheists like posting her for a variety of reasons. Some (maybe most from what I have seen) like to antagonize, insult, and belittle those who do not hold the same view. Others see it as their (un)religious duty to spread their point of view (we would call it "evangelize"). And others liek to do so as a way of confirming their position within their own minds. There are probably more reasons, but those seem to be the biggest ones.
