Bret I didn't mention Jesus by name...Now an Athiest mentions him...
I asked what makes the Messiah special...you guess keep telling me about Jesus...surely this must mean you think Jesus is Messiah? The question remains the same. Why a Messiah rather than any prophet?

Doppler, I absolutely agree..the difference was the the Messiah would atone for sin and Jesus did fufill these prophesies. Only a sinless perfect man could pay the penalty and only God is perfect.

Jenn, I was really anxious to get a Muslim perspective.. We do know the Christ is the Messiah It is in your Qu'ran... My question though is why? What made Jesus Messiah and not simply a prophet? If your ead these answers the Christians believe the Messiah ahd purpose above the prophets...Why does the Qu'ran teach Jesus is the Chrsit and the Messiah?

knowing gnostic thanks again for your answer, Now have you ever read any of the words of the true prophets of God?
The first book of Moses...begins showing man is created in this image of God the trinity..god said let US create man in OUR image..then shows the creation being man was made not only flesh but also spirit and man became a living soul...Abraham said God would provide a Lamb... Moses taught the tree of life...the prophsies are endless...simply because not everyone understood nor believed God does not mean that he isnt real or that his word is not true...the God of Abrham does agree with Jesus if a man seeks this truth in God's word he will definitelky find it Jesus said had you believed Moses you would have known me because Moses wrote of me.

Jenn, yes the Qu'ran does say that Jesus is not the Son of God..Simply because the Qu'ran says this does not necessarily make it true...If I write a book saying Allah is not God it wouldnt make it true right? my question to you is this why does the Qu'ran say Jesus is the Christ and Jesus is the Messiah and Jesus is sinless...The Qu'ran does agree with all of these. What purpose does Muslims have for a Christ or Messiah above the prophets?

Jesus Christ was the human incarnation of God Himself, and the only person to have ever lived a perfect, sinless life. Others prophesied, but Jesus gave His life to pay the penalty for our crimes against God.

I have a Masters of Divinity, but I'm no expert. Just trying to help. A Messiah is a prophet, but a more specialized kind who has kind of an earth-shattering mission, I would say. The Messiah would bring order as an agent of God to the entire world, not just the believers. A Messiah would bring truth in a way that would make everyone believe that there was a God. A Messiah also brings justice to those who persecuted the believers. Does that help? Ugh, I feel like I should know more. =(

Jesus was a practicing Jew and did not make much changed to the sacred law. Christians believe that God is three then why is none of the Prophets claimed this, surely if they where prophets shouldn't they know? Why is it that the trinity wasn’t part of christan theology until the roman emperor Constantine forced it upon the people? Why is that many pagan symbols where adopted into Christianity, they used to worship on a Saturday then changed it to Sunday, the day of the sun. The pagan deity called Baal was believed to be born on the 25th, he was the son of the sun.
Also in the persian mythriac religion the son of god was sent to cleanse the world of sin, this what the bible says. Why is that that Jesus didn not change the religion as much as others did yet he has the right to do so.
Its Christianity that doesn’t agree with Jesus (upon him peace) not the other way round.

The prophets were messengers of God. They were sinners but faithful and delivered God's word. The Messiah is the one to fulfill the prophesies. The Messiah is born of a virgin. The Messiah is the suffering servant. The Messiah is sinless. The Messiah is the only means of salvation.
When Moses spoke of God sending a prophet like him, the Messiah fulfilled that. I know some people make the mistake of believing this is Muhammad, but Jesus is like Moses. They were both saved as infants, performed miracles and were leaders. Moses offered to die to save sinners but only Jesus actually did die to save us all. And only The Messiah can defeat death.
God Bless.

Jesus is not only a Prophet, but also a Priest and a King! No one else could claim that. Jesus was totally sinless, unlike the others, and he rose from the dead, unlike the others. The Messiah HAD to be sinless, and He had to bear the sins of all mankind. Jesus was true Man and true God.........none other like Him! Blessings to you.

I think one of the differences is that people pray to Jesus. Jews are still waiting for their messiah and Muslims don't pray to Muhammad. Christians believe that Jesus opened the gates to heaven because he was the son of God. Other prophets, just delivered the word of God.

The messiah is the son of God. The messiah is different from other prophets because he was sent to earth to be sacrificed or do die for our sins. Unlike the prophets, he was perfect. He faced all the temptations to sin that all the other prophets faced. The other prophets had sinned, the messiah didnt sin.

wow, good question!
i believe the main difference was that Christ was the SON of GOD. and not just a favored human. the prophets were very important b/c they provided GOD's Word to the people, but Jesus Is the Word. He didnt just tell us what we were doing wrong like the prophets, He provided a way to become free of our sin.

Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was the last prophet and seal of prophets.. Messiah again does NOT mean Christ. Jesus(pbuh) was a prophet of Allah(Swt) he was a man and not the son of god but just a man who was chosen as a Prophet.
The Quran states that anyone who claims that Jesus(pbuh) is God or the son of God is a liar and will surely go to hell. Jesus(pbuh) for Muslims is a servant of God who is a Prophet and we all are servants of Allah(swt).
The Quran does not say Jesus(pbuh) is Christ it says that those who say he is the Christ are liars. The Quran gives Jesus(pbuh) respect because he was a prophet of Allah(Swt). Messiah does not mean Christ in Arabic. It means Anointed one or someone who is a leader.
