I'm confused about my religion lately. I've grown up in a Christian family and I believe in God, but I don't know if this is the right thing for me. I've thought about other religions, but none of them seem right. And I know that if I did choose another religion, my family would be totally against it. What should I do?!?

Consider your reasons for looking at other religions. Is it a pursuit of the truth, or merely a pursuit of change?

We all must determine what we believe on our own at some point.

You need to come to a solid understanding of what you beleive and more importantly why you beleive it.

I have studied many religions and the one I follow seems to have the best answers as to why the world is as it is, why people act the way they do, and is the most logical in terms of its systemic theology. Took me a long time to get there and I would not be suprised if the same held for you.

I am not of the same religion as the rest of my family. I am sure in the end, assuming you can give a good answer for why you think your beleif system is better than theirs, they will respect your decision. Even if they disagree with it.

How can you ever truly come to know God if you never question him?
He doesn't want you to believe in him just because someone told you to. He wants you to educate yourself with all of the other options before deciding on him with your heart--not someone eases.
This is actually a good thing. It's God at work allowing you to find the truth for yourself. Use your time wisely and don't waste it. Study hard.

You should not look to any man. Your choice of what to believe in does not determine what really is the Truth. Pray to God, ask Him to reveal the Truth to you. Believe me, He desires that you know the truth much more than even you do, because He understands the potential of you knowing the Truth better than any human. He wants to reveal the Truth to you. Pray and ask, if you are really seeking Him he will allow you to find Him.

Are you seeking the will of God? or your own will?

I converted from Methodist to Roman Catholicism. Conversion is hard. Real conversion is hard anyway. Don't lump Christianity together. The Orthodox and Roman Catholics are like... a world away from any of the Protestants, though, some Anglicans and Lutherans are more... similar.

You don't need a religion. Your beliefs are individual and special and unique to you. So start exploring them on your own

Its probably less trouble not to tell your family until you are sure what you do believe. They proabbly wouldn't understand

By the way I think teaching children they will burn in hell for eternity is child abuse.

Sounds like you just want to believe in God and not have any religious ties. You should see if you can contact the guy on here who's avatar name is Today's Prophet. He's pretty big on that sort of thing.

You can't base your faith or your beliefs on what pleases your family.

You have to follow whatever it is your heart, mind or soul exhorts.

Going through the motions of following a faith you don't feel isn't truthful to yourself, your family, or your God. Most religions and societies judge hypocrisy more harshly than impeity.

Would your family really prefer you to lie about what's in your heart?

Keep asking questions, keep exploring. If there is a god, he/she/it gave you the mind to come up with your own answers. You can't let your family stand in the way of true enlightenment.

ps - I'm agnostic, generally don't believe in god, but I support anyone who seeks a better understanding of their spiritual self.

Stop searching for a religion and search for a savoir! Read the Bible and listen to what God has to say to you and follow that.
