i think botanical gardens are the best place where you can find a distinctive flora. and orchards are great place for this.

Lompoc, California has fields of flowers, they grow them there like other states grow wheat or corn. They have every color and acres and acres, they have on line stuff to see. That is where the American Flag in flowers was grown after 9/11 and circulated on the net.
Source, lived there and have gone back for years. Where Vandenburg AFB is located.

What comes to my mind is a place in Canada called the Buchart Gardens. I have not been there but my parents visited there and the gardens are spendid from what I saw from photographs and memorabilia they brought back. I'd like to visit there someday.

In South Africa there are areas where its desert most of the time but then when it rains there are hundreds of thousands of beautiful flowers in HUGE meadows. I will try to find out what they are called for you...

botanical garden? Polynesia, the rainforest, Hawaii, the jungle. more exotic places have more exotic flora and fauna.
