Actually, Jehovah's Witnesses already *DO* preach at prisons, grocery stores, malls, gas stations, and dozens of other public places!
A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

The real rules for witnessing are to be polite, offer the booklets, and offer to discuss the details. If the person says that they are not interested, the discussion is supposed to stop, and the witness moves on to more fertile ground.
In come cases, there are several teams canvassing an area, and you might get repeat visits during that particular campaign, but you should get repeat visits from the same witnesses once you tell them "No."
I have come across some witnesses who get a little overzealous and try to push things, and I gently correct them and remind them of the rules for witnessing. If they persist, I call the local Kingdom Hall Elder and make a direct complaint.
I am not a Jehovah's Witness, and never was, but my wife and in-law family was. (I was divorced 15 years ago, and have since remarried. )
I am a member of the Church of Christ, and quite happy there.
But just imagine my family reunions!

Hey, we're just trying to make sure EVERYBODY on Earth has had the chance to hear the good news. You can't (as far as I know) put a restraining order, but you can politely ask them to put you on the 'do not call' list next time they come by. It should work, if nothing else for a year.
You ask why we don't go to prisons, gas stations, etc... We do. We try our best to be everywhere there are people to be reached - literally.

Just put a cross on your door or front lawn. Generally the JW cult view this as an insult and that your a misdirected Christian. They will leave you alone.
Also in some states you can have The JW arrested for trespassing or harassment. I know in my state they will shut a Kingdom hall down in a neighborhood if they keep bothering the residents.

just tell them what you wrote in the additional details. also, just try to be nice all the same. i had two them come to my house once, and i all said was yes or no, recieved their pamphlet, and politely told them, "thank you, but i'm not interested." they never came again. i kinda feel sorry for them. they are so devoted to their mission. but yes, i agree they are annoying.
PS BarryF put up the good answer up there!

Just tell them you were "disfellowshipped" from the organization.
All Jehovah's Witnesses know about that word and they are forbidden to speak to former members.
Or put up a sign that says "No Jehovahs Witnesses".

Next time ask him inside.....
Then as he gets started, stop him and tell him his suit is nice and fits his form snugly.
He will get a little uncomfortable, but press on.
Then stop him again, and tell him you love the shape of his lips.
Now he is really getting uncomfortable, but may try to move ahead.
Thats when you stop him a third time and ask if it is ok if you sit next to him on the couch. Make sure you get up and move his direction with intent.
He will get up and leave, and you won't have to worry about further visits.
If he feels comfortable enough to invade your home with his beliefs, you just need to convince him that you are going to invade him with what he thinks are yours.
Does the trick every time.
Either that or invite him in, and put some Porn on TV then ask if he has seen this one. That works just as well.
Sometimes they tell you they are uncomfortable with pornography, then you tell them you are uncomfortable with religion, but that didn't stop them from knocking on your door. Then ask for their address, because you would like to stop by and tell them about the benefits of living a promiscuous lifestyle and drop of a few magazines.

I had a similar experience.
I had an employer who was JW and he kept sending missionaries to my home. When I asked him to stop he would just smile. I finally went over his head at work and complained.
His response was to throw boxes of vegetables at me while screaming at me... then he fired me. I was only 16 at the time and didn't realize I could have reported him.

They respect no ones privacy, but one thing worked for me, I told them I was Jewish and they never bothered me again, I suppose its because Jews don't believe in the divinity of Jesus and that just throws them, Maybe I should have used Wiccan next time one comes.

Turn on your sprinklers when they arrive - after they are stuck on your porch. Then don't answer the bell - eventually they'll make the dash, and not come back!
BTW, yes, I would - burglars often pose as religious door-to-door salespeople so they can find unoccupied homes & break in....
