God is a just because because although we sin and fall short. He gives us another chance to get it right. Man is unjust. If someone continually do things that are wrong unto you would you give them another chance? As a Christian I can not guarantee that I am able to continue to forgive the person. After so many chances it kind of hard. God is very just! He has given us enough time to come to Him and have a relationship with Him before His coming. I am in now way perfect but if I continue to walk by Faith then I know that I have done my best. But being a just God does not give you a free pass to do what you want, although our God is just that does not mean that he will not discipline us. Think of Him as your parents, your parents can be the most nicest people on the planet but if you step out of line they will not spare rod. I think God is the same way. We have consequences to every choice that we make whether good or bad. I believe we have a fair God.

If God doesn't exist, then your question is meaningless (something that doesn't exist doesn't have any characteristics). Responding to this question requires belief in his existence...
Dictionary.com has 8 definitions of the word "just" in this context (the adjective not adverbial meaning usage)...
1. guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness: We hope to be just in our understanding of such difficult situations.
2. done or made according to principle; equitable; proper: a just reply.
3. based on right; rightful; lawful: a just claim.
4. in keeping with truth or fact; true; correct: a just analysis.
5. given or awarded rightly; deserved, as a sentence, punishment, or reward: a just penalty.
6. in accordance with standards or requirements; proper or right: just proportions.
7. (esp. in Biblical use) righteous.
8. actual, real, or genuine.
If there is a God, then #8 is a given and #7 is universal to all religions that believe in God. If God is the creator of the universe, then he has the right to create rules and standards (#6) and enforce those standards (#5 and #3). Most religions also believe that God spoke the truth (to them at least) so that takes care of #4. For #2, Christianity (for example) would say yes because the principle of salvation is equitable (it is available to all people). #1 encompasses the other 7...and in several places in the Bible, Jesus (and God) is referred to as "the truth".
Nope, God is NOT unjust no matter how you define the term!

My God is just, merciful and a lover of peacemakers. All the popular caricatures that the god haters put forth in the media and blogs do however seem to portray god as unjust, vindictive and justifier of hate and wars. And You get to decide the answer to this question for yourself.

God is absolutely Just and he has commanded us to be just.
Qur'an:[49:13]
"O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of GOD is the most righteous. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant. "
3:18] GOD bears witness that there is no god except He, and so do the angels and those who possess knowledge. Truthfully and equitably, He is the absolute god; there is no god but He, the Almighty, Most Wise.
"If you do judge, judge between them justly. God loves the just."
(Our'an: 5:42)
O You who believe! Be upholders of justice, bearing witness for God alone, even against yourselves or your parents and relatives. Whether they are rich or poor, God is well able to look after them. Do not follow your own desires and deviate from the truth. If you twist or turn away, God is aware of what you do. (Qur'an, 4:135)
