And what is your belief?

Also, if you can provide links to any material on the web that would help a person who hasn't seen real science since college, that would be great. Links to astronomy, evolution, etc.

You're right. I was just thinking somebody might have a favorite link. I'm not looking for people to do my work. I can do that myself.

I came on answers originally just screwing around and answered q's in home and garden since my background is in the flower and landscape industry. However, I migrated towards R&S because of the deep and humorous concepts floating around here. Oh, and I love sarcasm. Seems like you guys have a nice society going here!

As for religious background, I was raised methodist until about the age of 13 when my parents said it was my choice to continue or not. Being of a more scientifically grounded personality, I chose to stop worshiping a deity that cannot be proven.

I believe that the values and morals of Christianity are important and should be understood if nothing else for social context. However, I don't believe in Heaven and Hell, amongst all the other mythological dogma.

In practice, I follow the concept of kharma. You know, the notion that things happen for a reason (however unexplainable) and that what goes around comes around.

I could go on, but there it is in a nutshell.

Slightly (I must type this up so I can just copy and paste) - I was Wiccan for 13 years. I have been here a bit over a year and I became an atheist during that time. I didn't change my beliefs because of R&S but some of the words of the more well spoken atheists did give me pause when I was giving serious thought to my beliefs and just before I changed those beliefs. I find this site frustrating too. I keep leaving but I always come back.

I am an atheist.

I have taken around 90 credits of college level psychology and sociology courses at NYIT, plus the usual liberal arts science exposure (astronomy, chem, physics, bio, etc.) I've taken Anatomy & Physiology I & II, and tutored both courses. I've also taken the usual calc, trig, geometry & statistics mathematics.

I've taken courses in electronics and logic, and for awhile I focused on computer science. I can program in Basic, Fortran, Pascal and C++. I can build computers, install and network them in my sleep.

Before school I spent six years building high performance engines, which required learning a fair amount of mechanical engineering, metallurgy, fluid dynamics, chemistry and Newtonian physics.

I've never actually worked in a laboratory or in a scientific field per se, but I've used a vast amount of science in the various jobs I've worked, which have included everything from strength of materials to conductivity.

My bookshelves are filled with science books. I've spent long weekends at the Smithsonian in D.C. at least 10 times, and I live close to the American Museum of Natural History / Hayden Planetarium.

I happen to like this site very much.

I'm an Atheistic Wiccan.

I have two years of university, and two years of college, with courses in biology, chemistry, physics, archaeology, anthropology and history. I'm sorry, I don't have any at the moment. I'm at work. Perhaps when I get home later tonight, I'll find some for you.

Edit: Fascinating how the Atheists seem to be the ones with the highest education.

Do you currently mean like a Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue?

I have a BS & MS in applied mathematics, if you want to count that among the "sciences". I took a number of courses in chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics, and did some mathematical work with biological, chemical, and physical models too.

For links, I gotta go with the good ol' archive for the talk.origins newsgroup: http://www.talkorigins.org Though they've been really slow on the updates. I also like http://www.nasa.gov for their astronomy articles.

As for "my belief", well I'm a pracitioner of one particular non-theistic religion, if that's what you mean (http://www.churchofsatan.com ).

Atheist, Ph.D. in biology

Do not try to get any information from the web. There's too many websites with really bad information.

Read a well written textbook used in college courses, like Kardong's introductory text on evolution.
