I have two pigs, but only one of them seems to have to problem. He is pooping constantly, sometimes I pick him up and notice five or six poops coming out at once. Should I be concerned?

He is about three years old, is that considered 'older'?

Be glad your piggie is pooping! This means his digestive system is working as it should. It is when they *stop* pooping that you have a problem!

Guinea pigs have to graze on food all day long to keep their systems moving. If their digestive system stops, they get very sick, very fast. Pigs should have access to hay 24 hours per day, seven days per week as well as pellets, & water. They also need a cup of fresh vegetables each day to keep them healthy. Because they literally eat all the time, they also poop all the time! What goes in, must come out!

However, I am a bit concerned about five or six poops all at one time. That could be a sign that he's having a bit of trouble pushing them out on a regular basis & could be the beginnings of impaction issues. You didn't say how old your piggie is, so I'll just tell you that this is a common problem in older boars. I would keep an eye on this if I were you. If you find that he has a build-up of poops in his perineal sac & can't get them out on his own, you'll need to help him along. See this link for more information:

Good luck!

I agree with Justified. Be glad that he's pooping! That's what healthy piggies do! They eat all day and it's gotta go somewhere.

If the poops are well formed, seperate and not mushy, I wouldn't be too concerned. You should be cleaning out his perineal sac weekly to get the bedding and gunk out of there. http://www.guinealynx.info/impaction.html It's pretty gross but neccesary to do and will help you watch for impaction issues.
