You can request a particular unit and if there is a position in your MOS there's a good chance you'll get it. On the other hand, the Army always leaves an out with language that will make your assignment subject to the needs of the Army. You could end up elsewhere.

No. Unless you get some sort of guarantee at enlistment that fits with your skills and MOS, forget it. Some good reasons would be like a desire to serve with a family member or joining under the buddy system. Very few options though.

You can ask for 3 different countries/states. Other than that, they send you where they need you.
I asked for Germany, Alaska, and didn't care about the 3rd.
I was sent to Germany (for 4 days before going to the Gulf war in 1990).
Spent almost 3 years in Germany and loved it. Then re-enlisted to come stateside.

You give up a lot of basic personal rights when you join the military, including choosing where to live and what to do there.

In the Marines you can ask for a duty station, you get to choose the best three choices. You may not get the one you want, but if they could use you in more than one area they will use your choices to decide where to send you. I got my choice but a friend of mine asked for east coast and got Hawaii instead, lucky break for him.

Sure you can. Any place in Iraq. Seriously, they don't operate like that. You have a say in job type based on ability but that is about it.
