I have to admit that there are times that I text message while driving. I admit that it is not the safest thing. I do think that the law banning driving while TALKING on a cellphone is completely ridiculous. If you can not talk and drive at the same time, then you shouldn't have a drivers license. If it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving, then it should be illegal to drive with a passenger in your car. What is the difference between talking on a cell phone or talking to someone sitting in the passenger seat. If you think about it, when you are driving and talking to another passenger, you at times take your eyes off the road to look at the person your talking too. Isn't that unsafe as well? What about when your driving with a baby or a child in the car. That is a distraction at times as well. There are so many distractions to drivers. Are the lawmakers and politicians that are passing these laws going to ban driving with children and other passengers? Are they going to pass laws saying that you cant drive and drink a cup of coffee or take a sip of your water? Whats next? I think that they have way to much time on there hands and rather than spend it doing something worth wild like bringing our troops home they want to sit on there behinds wasting our tax dollars.

Doesn't matter if you can do it, there are plenty of things you can do, doesn't mean you should do them.
Hell, I could do 95 and talk to my best friend about our favorite tv show while I was on the highway, it doesn't mean I should.
It's stupid and incredibly dangerous, they give you a ticket to deter you from doing it. In those couple seconds your eyes are off the road and hands are of the wheel, you could kill someone. That's why they can give you a ticket.

I'm glad you got a ticket. Why don't you THINK first. What makes you think you're immune to the dangers of the road?

EDIT: A girl was recently killed in a car accident for text messaging while she was driving!: http://www.comcast.net/news/national/index.jsp?cat=DOMESTIC&fn=/2007/07/14/714584.html&cvqh=itn_text

If you want a ticket or to put you life in danger than text people. It is just unsafe to you and the people around you.

Because it is distracting and causing accidents, not everyone can look at their phones and drive so they discourage it by giving tickets out to everyone. I think it is completely necessary only people who text are teenagers and they don't have enough driving experience to be playing with phones and driving.

One day when you accidently run over kids in the cross walk you'll understand why you can't text and drive at the same time.
