If my soul hangs in the balance and I'm faced with eternal torment for making the wrong decisions, isn't there an obligation for the book of laws to be clear of any ambiguities?

Finally given the many sects within the many religions, if the believers can't agree amongst themselves as to what the texts mean, what does that say about the clarity of the texts in question?

You shouldn't have to interpret a holy text. The true Church (the Catholic Church) does it for you. If you are in any doubt ask the Church. The Catholic Church has its own book which it compiled from all the scriptures that were around in the years after Jesus. That book is the Bible. If you want to know what it means, forget the many sects and their self-styled opinions, go straight to the original authors. If the compilers of the Bible don't know how to interpret it, then who does?

The meanings are clear.

People take simple words and try to use them to create power over others. This is a form of greed. It is a sin.

If you read the scripture for yourself, and read the whole text, not just the line you are given, things will make sense.

They will make more sense the more you read. As a matter of fact it may not be until you have completely read the entire text of the bible that you get it.

Also, when reading scripture, pray for understanding first. The lessons to be found are many-layered. Some passages have an obvious literal meaning on top, but when taken with other text, have similar lessons that apply to family relationships, church relationships and the relationship between you and God.

Oh, by the way, wrong decisions are not the cause for your going into torment.

Failure to obey God's commands would be the primary cause. These commands are right there in the new testament. In many versions, they are written in red ink, because they were spoken to us by Jesus.

All the more reason to study the Bible. And all of it . We now have tons of denominations that each claim it is the only right one. But none of them follow the whole Bible, just parts they have picked out. If you want the truth, whole truth, and nothing be the truth study the Bible every day. And Don't use the King James bible; for King James did not want the Bible in English in his country. He could not stop them. So he ordered his own made, with orders to change 400 words to different meanings (like KJB has unicorn, dragons, and monsters in it; where none other dose.) King James only wanted confusion, with Satan at his side. Also he ordered no notes at the bottom of pages so it would be harder for people to recall where they had read it before,.....

Not an excuse just as ignorance of the law is no excuse. Are we all going to study law books just in case? Not likely. If you can find a better way to understand the truth about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and evil, then go for it.Better not be wrong.

Read it and take it from it what you can. No man has ever truly figured out the bible. Most of the Bible is meant for personal interpretation. Heck Yeshua taught in parables.
