I'm a pediatric registered nurse, so I should be the one saying no TV. However, I have a 17 month old son who has been watching the Wiggles since about 9 months and he has learned soooooo much from it. He has learned words, phrases, dance moves, songs- it's amazing. I agree, short periods several times per day (of educational stuff) won't hurt them a bit! Especially shows like Sesame Street and Wiggles where they are out of their chair dancing a good part of the show anyway.

Sesame Street is a great show for kids. she'll learn a lot from it. there are other good shows, too. just don't let her watch more than a half hour to an hour a day. even with the best of intentions, putting the kids in front of the TV helps get dinner on the table on time.

Of course its okay! She should be watching educational shows like that because she'll learn a lot from them. I know Sesame Street helped me when I was learning to read. As long as shes not in front of the TV for hours, its completely fine.

So many people use TV as a babysitter. My two children are not allowed to watch TV at all since I cannot control what they see. Even Sesame Street has taught things that I don't want my children to know yet. My children are ages three and one. If you are OK with not being in full control of what your children learn then small amounts of TV can be quite educational. Anything more than small amounts can be very harmful however.

I know I'm gonna get it for this one, but tv is a life saver for parents! I'm not saying to throw your kid in front of it for like 8 hours a day or anything, but if you can find something educational (like Sesame Street, alot of shows on Nick, Jr.) for them to watch that also allows you time to get housework or cooking done, or even just a break to read a book or magazine or something, then why not?? You know what? Even the occasional brain rotter like Spongebob isn't going to totally damage your child's brain. A billion people will tell you otherwise, but I promise you your child will still be okay, as long as you make sure to include time for reading a book or 2 to them, and of course give them time to run around outside and terrorize the back yard.

I think occasional educational TV during the day is absolutely fine. Sesame street especially is a great show. I think people get WAY too hung up on the TV issue. As long as your child still gets appropriate outside time/exercise, and its not on all day long, its totally fine!

I've let my daughter watch age appropriate shows since she was 1ish. Let me tell you, if you have satellite or cable NOGIN is great. The shows are short, about 20 minutes a piece. My daughter has learned so much.
Counting to 10 in Spanish
Identifying colors
Adding/subtracting
Remember. . .TV should not replace your teachings. I try and watch with her and use these shows she likes to help instill the things that I am trying to teach her.

Sure. Sesame Street isn't going to do any harm. She might learn a few things too. It sounds like you have a handle on her t.v. viewing!

yes. Everything in moderation right. Nothing like sesame street. Elmo is still our fave. Just not to much is right it delays speech development and can hinder a child's imagination.
