theres really no way of getting rid of them without hurting them
just sit them down and tell them face to face you want them to leave..

If, as you say, they *refuse* to leave, that means you've already asked them politely, and they're still around. You then no longer have an obligation to not hurt their feelings. You should now be more concerned about their squatters rights. That's right. If they've been living there more than a given amount of time (depending on local ordinances), you may have to begin eviction proceedings, which can take months, and you have to do it by the book or start over. Demand they leaving immediately. If they still refuse, call the police non-emergency line and learn about your rights ... and theirs.

I've been in a situation like this and I think the best way is to kindly offer to help go with that person and look for places- offer to help in any way you can, instead of telling them they have to vacate. When you offer to help, it diffuses the sensitive nature of what you're really asking them for. You can also post good deals you've seen in the classifieds or craigslist on the fridge or simply just ask them, "Do you need any help with finding a place or are you doing OK on your own?" (an indirect way of making them know you're expecting them to leave soon without having to actually say it!)

There is only one way , this person has obviously overstayed their welcome .(You don't say if this person is paying their way ??) You should confront them and advise that you would like your own space back .
The issue is obviously making you uncomfortable , and your own home should be a place of comfort for you . You appear to have been very generous to this person in allowing them a place to live , but it is time for them to accept the temporary period is at an end
Don't leave it any longer , give him/her a period of notice and provide them with the local papers list of renter accommodation .
Hope you get your space back soon.

Tell your roomate you need to talk. Say something like "Please dont take this the wrong way, and I am not trying to hurt you, but I need you to move out. I have respect for you, but for (reason) ... I cant live with you anymore. You can hate me, but I still want to be close friends with you". Say something like that and it would hurt your roomate, but atleast he/she would know exactly whats on your mind.

Unfortunetly there is no other way that might not hurt your roomate...Unless you make up a huge lie or something, but that would be just wrong. I hope I helped a little.

The one thing that people say is honestly true (Never loan your friends money and never have one more in with you if you value the relationship because its not going work out and your going to loose your friend in the end for trying to do a good deed.)

Buy a local paper and go through the "Accommodation" section with them. Failing that,be blunt and say you have someone coming to stay and they must leave..

TOUGH! u asked them to stay, they'll go when there ready. But if you really have had enough, then when they go out move some furniture about ask some friends round & when your guest returns get them to pretend they dont know who he is & that he must have the wrong house

yeah it's just like feeding a cat who eventually does not leave
you gotta break it to the person: you have to leave
the person will definitely not be happy, but the person is making you uncomfortable
you gotta talk to the person and tell him/her that it's time for him/her to leave because you have helped him and he has to start his own life
you will not be hurting the person
think about it: the person is troubling you
of course you cannot expect the person to be fine about leaving
but eventually they will
if it goes too far.........notify the police!
