Old Test. Laws where if you sinned you had to sacrifice something because of the sanctity blood held. Jesus came and died for us as sorta the "ultimate sacrifice" where we wouldn't have to sacrifice anymore we could just ask for forgiveness through Jesus. Thats why Jesus is the only way to heaven and thats why no man comes to the father, but by through him and thats why when you do things you do it in Jesus name. It also stopped the OT laws which told you to stone adulters, murderers, etc...
Hope that helps a little bit if you are truly looking for answers
God Bless

well who said that God had to die, it was his son Jesus that died to pay the ransom for adams sin
(Romans 5:12) 12 That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned—.
(Romans 5:17) . . .For if by the trespass of the one [man] death ruled as king through that one, much more will those who receive the abundance of the undeserved kindness and of the free gift of righteousness rule as kings in life through the one [person], Jesus Christ.
God's Justice requires EXACT JUSTICE since a perfect life was lost the repayment for that would be something of equal value, Jesus was a perfect equal & thus could pay this price this was prefigured in human terms when
God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, (then men could see what Jehovah God went through) Jehovah & Jesus (the first born of God known as THE WORD) are 2 seperate persons.
You see there is a civilization aside from the earth that is ruled by law, (God's civilization of spirit creatures ) you can't have a civilization without laws.

You need to understand jewish customs and culture. But here is a simplified explaination. There was a Blood oath taken between God and Abraham. If one party did not keep his part of the deal then Blood would need to be spilled resulting in death by the guilty party. During the blood ritual God put Abraham to sleep and did it without him. That way when Man failed to keep the deal God would pay with his blood. Thus the Need for him to become human and the need for him to die for us. That is why it is said that he died for OUR sin. We broke the deal. He paid the price.

God could have commanded that all humans will follow all directions all the time.
Of course, if He did that, we would be no more than machines.
He gave us minds of our own, and the freedom to use them as we please. He also gave us guidelines to follow, so we could be in fellowship with Him.
When we use our minds for purposes against God's, we are probably rather irritating to be around, and God just cannot stand to be near us.
I imagine this is why He implemented his great plan. He lets us to explore all possibilities, including evil ones, but He gives us the guidelines to follow so we can remain in fellowship.
He had to teach us to use our minds.
Then, he had to teach us what He considers right and wrong.
And, he had to teach us to choose.
He had to teach us to ask forgiveness when we make errors.
He had to teach us to repent and turn away from wrong stuff.
He had to teach us that we need not fear punishment.
He had to teach us to choose to be with Him.
Even in the old testament of the bible, it is clearly stated that the punishment for sin is death.
God gave us the Perfect Human Example in Jesus. Jesus let a perfectly human life. He was born, he grew up in a nice family with brothers and sisters, he did all the things everybody else did until it was time for Him to show us the secret of eternal life, but He did not sin.
Jesus taught people of his day the actual Truth about God, and what God expects of us.
He showed us that we no longer had to fear punishment (death) for our sins, because He suffered all the punishment for all the sins (past, present, and future) even though He did not commit a single one of them. He died on the cross. He took on our punishment even though He did not deserve it.
So, even when we sin, if we acknowledge Jesus, and accept his gift of salvation, we have no punishment awaiting us, regardless of the sins we committed. That debt has already been paid! We are free!

God did not die.
Jesus, his son, died to save you from YOUR sins.
Grace is a free gift. You only need to profess Jesus as your Savior and turn away from sin.

He was fulfilling his own law which required a blood sacrifice to forgive sins. See the Torah for the sacrificial laws, and Romans for explanation of how God fulfilled these laws.
