I'm always suspicious of "christians" and their intentions. To me it is hard to really think of someone as a good person if they are only doing good to please their God. I prefer so called heathens because if they are doing the right things it is not because they are trying to please some mystical deity, but simply because they believe it is the right thing to do. People pick and choose what they want to believe from their religion. If they find out that they enjoy something that is in contradiction to their religious beliefs they will just rationalize it into something that is acceptable. In short people twist and turn their religious beliefs into something that in their mind is okay to do. i.e. premarital sex, eating pork if your jewish etc
So my thought is why be religious at all if your not going to follow the tenants of your own religion. Just be yourself and do what you feel is right. I think that is a much more acceptable solution than fudging on your religion.

Why do atheists use science and logic as a crutch? I'm a non-deist who adheres to the belief that our whole reality is merely an outer aspect of an all-pervading reality of a spiritual character. I therefore occupy a middle ground between godism and materialism. So I see both sides - and I regret to say I see atheists attacking god-believers a lot more often than the other way around. Yes,I think it's disgusting when fundies call people sinners or tell them they are going to "hell". But I look at the fact that 90% of the questions are atheist attacks on other people's beliefs - often quite vitriolic - and I cannot help but see the deist as more the victim than the victimizer - at least on R&S. I think the behavior of many of the atheists is deplorable. I never find it necessary to push my beliefs - or attack those of others. I think attacking other people's beliefs is juvenile and intolerant.

True Christians try very hard not to gossip and belittle people. Most of the people I know do not even tell a non believer they will go to Hell but that they will not have eternal life. In a sense it is the same but at least it is a nice way of putting it. I am sorry if you have had bad experiences with people about this but not all are that way. Yes God forgives us our sins but we are also not supposed to keep making the same mistakes.

Heaven and hell are not a crutch! People say well, your going to hell for this or that because they are ignorant of the word of God. No body has the right to judge you except God himself. If Christians walked in love as Jesus did then this world would be a better place. Insted everybody is trying to hate on one another for what they believe. We all have to share this world why not walk in love?

I don't wonder why people use religion as a clutch, I wonder why so many people still use religion as a clutch.
I have no respect for those people who gossip and belittle others, I have had family members who have been victims to this.

Misunderstanding of Science.
Mankind didn't have all the answers so attributed anything, unknown to a deity.
That belief allows them to put responsibility on the deity for personal actions, which requires a good God and a bad Devil.

Get a grip on reality you stereotyper! You may also want to know why people use evolution as a crutch for not facing God.
We all will have an accounting before Him whether we believe in Heaven and Hell or not.
EDIT: STEPPED ON A COUPLE OF TOES DID I? TRUTH IS HARD TO SWALLOW FOR SOME PEOPLE.

Many people call themselves Christian or whatever else, but there are very few people who truly follow all of the beliefs - especially judging. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Of course not.
People are responsible for their actions.
God gave us free will.
People can use heaven and hell as a crutch if they want to.
Who cares? Ignore them.
