My daugther is almost 13 months old and I really want her to start using a sippy cup to drink milk. She loves to drink water from the sippy cup, but she refuses to take it when I put milk in. What can I do?

For both of my kids, I had to give them chocolate or strawberry milk in it then gradually reduce the amount of flavoring I put in there. After a while, both the time of the gradual reduction and the fact they haven't had a bottle at all usually does the trick.

It also helps to use a colored sippy so that they cannot see what is inside.

Make the sippy cup her only option.
Reward her for using the sippy cup instead of a bottle.

Also, make up some cool story of how the bottle goes away and the sippy cup takes it's place. Also, give a gift to the "Big Girl" for using the new sippy cup.

Best wishes to ya!

This may sound silly, but it's worth a shot. Try buying another sippy cup for yourself, put some milk in it, and ask the baby, "Do you want to drink milk with mommy?" My theory here is she may emulate your behavior and drink milk from the sippy cup because you are doing it. Good luck.

Honestly, kids will not allow themselve to come to harm through lack of nutrition or liquids. Simply put away all bottles and tell her it's sippy cups from here on out. She may fight it and drink less than you'd like for a few days but as long as you don't make a big deal about it and hold firm she'll come around very quickly and won't even remember her bottle. Good Luck!

If she is still using a bottle, widen the hole every couple days until the milk is free-flow. By taking away the need for the nipple, it will lose her interest and she will take the sippy cup. Also try a sippy cup with a soft spout like Nuby.

My daughter would only drink juice and water in her sippy cup. A friend told us to put strawberry Nesquick in the milk, and now she drinks that from her cup. The only problem is that adds a lot of sugar...but you can get reduced sugar Nesquick...
