My cousin planned on taking a trip in Sept. from the 5th to the 9th to South Beach....now with a child entering the 1st grade I thought I would be able to go on the trip and return in time for the first day of School but I just yesterday learned that in NYC school is starting on Sept 4th this year (earlier then I thought)......Now I can't go but she's telling me to get someone else to watch her so I can go on the trip.....I'm not missing my daughter's first week of school just so I can go to South Beach cause SHE needs a vacation.....Why doesn't she understand that that's no one elses responsibilty but my own??? Why is she being so selfish?? She's Mad at me cause she wants to go but her daughter isn't in school yet and she doesn't understand....

She has a child of her own but she's not in school yet.....She'll understand later when it's her own child, I suppose

If you want moral support for your decision you've got it.
So it is you who has to find someone else to watch your daughter and not her to find someone else to go with her?
After all South Beach will be there another day. Surely entering first grade only happens once in a lifetime.

that is kind of selfish, school is an exciting and important part in your childs life. Your friend will come to realize that, maybe the two of you could reschedule the trip when the kids are on holiday break!

It's a good thing she is not a mom. I have a friend like that. Before I was even out of the hospital she was asking me to go to the bar with her the following week. And when I invite her over all she does is bug me to go to bars.
You are a very responsible mom. A great mom.
