children should be taught the value of working for their money and also the value of using it responsibly. My kids do what they want (within reason) with they money they earn BUT only after they have put 25% of it in their savings.

He should have the right to take the system where he wants if it is his. But he has to understand he is responsible if the system gets broken, stolen, lost etc.
It sounds like more of a communication issue between his mother and you.. Have you in the past had my house and your house items? Is she using the Wii system to get back at you, and be petty, or does she have a legitiamte concern about it getting damaged?

she shouldnt control what he buys with his own money or what he does with it after its bought, within reason... if its something he shouldnt have as a minor, she should have control over that especially if hes living under her roof, but i see no reason why she should care where the Wii goes unless she wants to use it too...
you should let your son know that the money is his to deal with and his mother doesnt absolutley control what it goes toward. Does he even want a Wii system?

Personally, it's your son's money. He worked for it and he should be able to buy what he wants and keep whatever he buys where he wants. It is not appropriate for her to tell him how to spend his money. He's a kid and we've all been there. However, as parents, he should be taught how to manage and be responsible with his money.

Appropriate...interesting word.
When it comes to kids under 18, a parent's word is law. So in this case, I'd have to side with the mother. (though it pains me to do so....)

Personally, i think it should be up to the child to decide what to buy, of course within certain boundaries of course, but if the child is hard-earning then he/she should get to blow however they please. I hate being told how to spend my money, and i'm 25, think how a child would be. they want a candy bar and cant have it, thats not cool!

She should let him spend it on what ever he wants, let him see money does not stretch to far. You ask her " Don't you buy what you want and take it where you want to with your own money?" She sound controlling.
