Wine is generally alright so long as it does not react with the Cork. This sometimes Happens even with Two Year old wine, then it is undrinkable. A sort of Mold affects it and it has a Grotty Taste and it will make you sick if you attempt to drink it. Bring it back to the Wine Merchant for Refund or Replacement. You can get a Bottle of Wine that is 50 Years old and it might be alright ,then again it might not. That is why when Vintage Wine is sold they hardly ever Open the Bottle just in case it is Corked. It is just a big Snobby thing these Wine Sales where a Bottle is sold for Thousands of Pounds and the Wine is a Hundred Years Old.

wine contains alcohol which inhibits bacterial growth.
Also, if you think about it, wine is fermented grape juice (old grape juice???) so it's already "old" in some sense.

When wine turns, it generally becomes vinegar which is another food item people use.

Bread gets old and moldy is not good eats...
Old milk turns sour and curdles is not good eats (unless you controlled bacteria you added as in making cheese which is good eats).
Old wine becomes vinegar is good eats.
