"Don't care about what others think, they should care about what you think." It didn't take me long to grasp the circular logic there, but it really has been a good motto for me. It's a confidence builder I suppose.

My mom is also a believer in karma, which I too have adopted. Whenever you do something, it WILL come back to you. Needless to say, I always let other cars in at intersections because I know someone will let me in next time. : )

Making religion and church the sole part of our family, and how important it is to stay home with your children and how important discipline is. My parents weren't perfect and I know there is no such thing as the perfect parent. But I also learned from mistakes they made. My mother allowed no room for friendship as I grew up. I don't think that you should just be their friend but I do think there is a line where friendship can be entered in to the parent-child relationship. I could go on b/c the examples that parents make are so important and we are setting examples for our children all the time when we don't even realize it.

Not to repeat the same mistakes that they did. How NOT to bring my children up.
Not saying that my parents are terrible, because they aren't at all but there are lots of things I can think of that I won't do or say, that my parents did or said to me, that I will definitely not do/say etc with my children.
They have backhandedly taught me how to be a good parent.
Obviously there are lots of little pearls of wisdom I have learnt from them but this is a negative thing that I have turned into a positive and I think everyone is the same. We all know to learn from our own parents' mistakes.
Good question though!

If we continually repeat negative statements about ourselves or about life, we only keep producing more negative experiences.
It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.
Your life is a journey of learning to love yourself and then extending that love to others in every encounter.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!
Live the life you have imagined.
I am the main authority in my world.
I am the author of my life.
No person, place or thing has any power over me, for I am the only thinker in my mind.
As a child I accepted authority figures as gods.
Now I am learning to take back my power and become my own authority figure.
I now accept myself as a powerful, responsible being.

Self Respect and that there is nothing wrong w/ being Independent in life and the fact that you do not need a man in your life to make you happy or to buy you stuff you can buy your own things and that love your boyfriend or partner but never give him complete control.

That if you're no longer in love with your partner, don't stay together for the children.

That no matter what, my sisters will be there for me, and one of my brothers.

That I can depend on myself.

Sometimes, you need to step away from a person, even if you love them, and let them make their mistakes, and not let them drag you into it.

You can't control anyone but yourself. Self control is one of the best traits to cultivate.

"Being responsible for my own actions"

I hate when people do something and then try to place the blame on someone else. You did something, now accept the consequences, good or bad.
