I was looking in a magazin and on the cover was another magazin that said something about 2012 the Mayan code will end and that will be the year of destiny and there will be exciting events and a huge global change or global climate change. On some channel they was just showing the Earth in 2050 and the ground was brown (I didn't see ALL of it because I turned because I didn't wanna worry about that) and in say something about startings of fires or something like that forget, but they said something about fires. In school a teacher said something about on Sepember 11th something bad is going to happen to the USA and in another magazin I saw on the cover "The world will end 9/11/07." What's all this about?? They didn't worry about it last year.

P.S.: What are Mayans if there people what was they like??

The Mayans were a native Indian culture of Mexico. Their civilization was very advanced and sophisticated. They had developed a calender and the calender had an ending date that has been translated to be December 21, 2012. Some believe that the world will end on that date. Maybe they just got tired of calculating and stopped there.

The 2050 story sounds like it could be related to Global Warming and the predictions some are making of impending doom.

People have predicted doom and gloom for as long as civilizations have existed. Remember Y2K? Don't let it get you down. They have all been wrong so far.

Y2K was a scare in 1999 that all of the computers would shut down causing mass chaos and the world would be thrown into a pre-industrial revolution state.

All through history there have been predictions that the earth would come to an end soon. Christians since Christ have believed they were living in the final days, based on signs the interpreted in their own times. Some Christians have always been eager for the world to end, since this means that Jesus' prophesy is coming true. And you know how it is when you're really hoping for something, it's easy to convince yourself that you see it even if it's not there.

The earth is our home. We sometimes worry about whether it will last. Today, more than ever before, we are able to destroy the earth, and we worry about that. This is a fairly recent thing, I mean 200 years ago people didn't worry about destroying the earth. People have always thought the earth was limitless, but after believing this for thousands of years, we now have to change the way we think about the earth.

The Mayans were an aborignal people in Mexico. They had a very advanced civilization before Columbus arrived, in fact when the Spanish explorers 'discovered' Mexico, they found cities as big as the ones they had at home! But they believed that any other religion but theirs was evil, so they set about systematically destroying the Mayan culture.

The Mayans had figured out how to make a calendar that was much more accurate than what Europeans had at the time. It might have been the most accurate in the world, I'm not sure. They did this through hundreds of years of observations of the stars and moon and sun, keeping track of how long a year lasted, etc. This was done by many ancient cultures, especially those who needed to know ahead of time when Spring would come, etc.

The calendar the Mayans invented went for hundreds of years, ending in 2012. I don't think this means that they believed the world would end in 2012, I think they just never calculated past that. If their culture was still around, they probably would have calculated past 2012 by now.

When I was a kid, someone predicted that the world would end in 1961. There was a time when eight planets lined up in a straight line from the sun. This guy said the gravity of all these planets would make the world end. When it didn't happen, he said he'd made a mistake in his math and came up with a new date, a few months in the future. But nobody believed him. (Actually not many people believed him the first time, but we were all talking about it. It's just how people are!)

I study that it's not the tip of the mayan calander in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it restarts that day. The solar aligns with the middle of the galaxy that day so the mayans used that to make the day substantial. And for individuals who believe the international will end, think of of this. If somebody predicts that a pacesetter will die and a few king dies did they anticipate the destiny or did they simply say "a pacesetter" to make their "prediction" vast and appear as if they predicted the destiny. this may well be what the mayans are doing. (sorry that the awnser is long, lol).
